I would recommend you watch the 1984 Alternative Edition Redux edited by Spicediver first:

Then watch this one.

Thanks and reps OP!
The super quick answer is that personal shields stop most projectile weapons. If you want to get past them, you have to get close fast, then move through the shield slowly. That's easier to do by hand.

Again, WAY over-simplified. The Orange Catholic Bible probably explains better (that's a joke about how deep the world-building is; EVERYTHING is complicated).

Note that this isn't specific to crysknives. Knives are important throughout the Dune cosmos b/c of shields. Crysknives are a Fremen thing, but are useful (as is any knife) even with all the tech b/c of the above.
I enjoyed it because I knew the story prior. I think engaging with the first half of the movie is somewhat difficult without an understanding of, or the ability to engage with the second half. That said, my partner enjoyed the movie because she felt it was visually stunning and had all the actors/actresses she liked. I loved the music, too, and wanted to flex my new atmos surround system.

Anywho, have a great day!

Was this movie over hyped? Or was it just me that didn't really get into it? .-.

If you like that, then look at this (this is better than the actual movie): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXfSg7mLEdU
Is this supposed to be funny, or?

Thanks OP. I went into this movie with zero knowledge of Dune besides the early 2000's PC game and I loved the movie. Was waiting for this 4k to get cheaper, thank you!

Yeah I agree, I had trouble following what was going on. The movie expected the audience to come in with prior understanding of the story which I did not.
Even as someone who really enjoyed the movie, I completely agree with you that there was an expectation that you knew the story before watching.

My favorite movie of 2021. I came in knowing absolutely nothing. Definitely struggled to follow the first half, but was able to get the main plot points. Second half was much more straightforward. Afterwards, I read up on the movie and re-watched it and it made a lot more sense.

Nothing more needs to be said about the AV quality that hasn't been said already. Demo material for anyone with even a decent TV and sound system.
