It's a shame that it seems like many of these units are having issues. I was hoping that this would be a good reference device like level of machine (being that intel helped design it).
Does anyone know of relatively clean windows machines with little to know bloat that are not surface devices? thanks
eluktronics seem to have pretty clean installs as well. This whitebook is also known as their "mag15" model.
This sale is back live at $650 again as of yesterday and might be worth another look. There doesn't seem to be another laptop in this price range that really compares. You might look at the eluktronics max15 they have on sale on their site for $1000 or so open box. 3060, newer processor, but a 30-40% smaller battery.
I got mine and there is a gap where the bottom panel attaches. Tried to fix it to no avail. Also the battery lasts no time for me when unplugged. I'm mostly using this for an in home golf simulator so it will be pretty much plugged in all of the time. I don't know what I'm going to do just yet. The specs were perfect for what I need so I hate to go back to the drawing board.
Completely remove all of the screws and bottom panel. Check the wifi antenna wires to make sure they are woven in the crevasses around the battery properly then reseat the bottom carefully. Should fix the issue.
Does that mean that you can't do a clean install of windows? thanks
Sadly I can't confirm but I think it could be done as it's on a "Digital License". It will be activated automatically after reinstalling according to MS article. To play safe I'll be mirroring my current installation to the new drive instead, luckily there are 2 nvme slots. I was actually looking to install Windows 10, not sure if the licence would work.

Just reinstalled Windows 10 Home, didn't enter any product key, activated automatically after connecting to the internet.
