Sadly these days Plex seems so concerned with monetizing everything possible and pushing their own content that they no longer care about the core product. They still can't even properly test things, so just a few weeks ago one of their blunders resulted in restricted kids accounts being shown XXX porn images when doing a simple search. At this point Plex has lost it's focus, apparently has no clue what QA means, and seems to be more concerned with squeezing every dime they can out of the product instead of actually releasing stable software.
Plex is so buggy and the devs don't give a crap about the core product anymore.
EDIT: I should clarify my comment for fellow SDers. I have gotten a lot of joy out of the app over the years, but I definitely wouldn't buy it again now.
IMO Emby and especially JellyFin have far, FAR superior interfaces and buying the "Infuse" app is a better buy,.
If you do go with Plex and run iOS, do yourself a favor and buy Prism Music and Prologue for iOS. Thank me later. Prism Music is the BEST music player I have ever used in my entire life. It beats Marvis, Apple Music, everything.Prologue is a Plex compatible audiobook.
Edit 2: Some people asking me what kinds of problems I have with Plex. Missing movies galore (MKV especially), music names blank, music artwork not showing up or showing up with incorrect artwork from another song. I tried everything, nothing fixes it.
That said if there are better alternatives I am open to trying new things.

I concur... But also, I'm not sure I would even trust Plex enough to have porn on the server that I'm not wanting people to see. 😂
Is emby better?
Holy shiz. I guess I'm glad I had Plex search disabled. I have just my server listed.. my kids use it all the time!

ATM the only feature I actually use that requires a plex pass is the intro skip.

I originally bought my Plex pass years ago for the DVR features as well, but it was always too unreliable and buggy. I think they finally fixed some of the worst long standing issues earlier this year, but considering their history of ignoring showstopping bugs for months/years and (seemingly) introducing 2 new bugs every time they fix 1, I have very little faith in their ability to continually deliver a stable product.
Doesn't matter if you had things disabled or not, those images still would have shown up in the search results before Plex had to pull it back.
Channels DVR is probably the best out there if you use a supported device, but there is a monthly fee for it.

Plex's updates and track record as of late reminds me of Ubiquiti in the networking arena. Great hardware, but the software bugs and lack of fixing existing bugs before piling on more bugs is ridiculous.
