Contrary to claims made in this thread PG&E does not ( edit: override your control of smart thermostats ). It offers a price guarantee that for the first year ratepayers will not pay more than the standard plan by switching to the time-of-use plan required for the rebate. After the first year you can switch back to your old rate plan for free if your bill shows that you have been unable to avoid high use during peak hours. This means NO RISK. The above is per PG&E reps. Call to get first hand confirmation.

Just be warned, this SmartAC program requires you to give away control of your thermostat. May literally be a hot deal when it's 92 out and they crank your AC up to 85 or even turn it off. Just make sure you know what you're getting into
