Just to note, since Google bought Nest, Nest app is horrible on iOS vs ecobee (logs out one a week or two, no homekit, no applewatch). If this has no smart learning and thus you will have to adjust it (or you don't have a fixed schedule for a week) or you already have some smart home, check reviews in advance if it will work for you.
Also, sometime ago, cheap Nests had issues with C-wire. Dunno if this is still an issue.
No. It's not
Nest is great bro

Ecobee got bought by Generac... So what if they bought nest? The android app is great IMO. Google has a "learning thermostat" solution, it just costs a bit more. The C-wire issue is fixable, just YouTube it.
I'll go with AmazonBasic wifi thermostat, that comes with a cover plate. Sometimes, there is no paint behind your old thermostat, and these smart ones are smaller than the old ones.
I bought my Nest Thermostat (non learning) directly from Google for $99. $75 utility rebate available. The coolest thing is that yeah, it needs a C wire, but after the thermostat determined that it needed one, Google emailed me a promo code for a free Power Connector! It was super easy to install and solved the C wire issue. Very impressed with Google on that one.

if you don't have a C-wire you can use the G-wire as a C, but by doing it this way you will sacrifice independent fan control. most people probably don't use that functionality anyway.
