I have the previous generation of this grill... the assembly is no big deal... mostly attaching the legs and handles... the main unit is already pre-assembled...

If you're shopping for a grill, I don't know everything, but I can say Pit Boss is okay if you get it real cheap on sale, Camp Chef is the best value in this price range, Grilla/RecTec/Yoder are the ones I'd buy if I wanted to spend $800-2000. But if it's me, I'd take a look at the Masterbilt charcoal gravity smokers. Real charcoal smoking (more smoke flavor) with the convenience of a pellet grill. The brand hasn't always been reliable but I've heard the newer models are pretty well built.
The things I like about this are versatility and access to the flame itself.not really something you can do with gravity smoker right?
I have the last-gen, this thing is badass! Pretty easy to put together, and its customer service is top-notch. My thermostat died after the first year and they mailed me one quickly with replacement instructions. This thing can get super hot when sliding the bottom out, and make killer pizza or burgers. This is a pretty good price too IMO. It's also very easy to clean with help from the ash catcher (even my recktec doesn't have that.)
Pellet grill noob here. Does this also work as a standard grill? Could I throw some burgers/steaks on this thing and grill them over a flame?
No direct flame. Think of this as "indirect" heat more than grilling over an open flame. With that being said, I still think burgers etc come out most delicious because of the smoke flavor

What does this mean then?
Flame kissed isn't only achievable with gas and charcoal grills. With a pull of a knob you'll be able to switch between Direct and Indirect Flame mode. A louvered drip tray allows flames to reach the bottom grill racks giving a wider grill temperature range from 160°F to 650°F.

I just went and looked at the description of this camp chef. The model I have does not have this direct flame version, but I'm not sure how great it would be because the flame is concentrated in the center of the grill. So I guess you could get the flame kissed but it's going to be in one concentrated area

This has the "slide and grill" feature that moves the metal plate covering the firepot to the side. Smokers without this feature come with a solid drip tray whereas this one is louvered to help with heat distribution for grilling. I personally don't use it as I have a Weber gas grill for that.

Yea I don't have a grill right now, so I was looking at this as sort of an all in one solution.
Anyone out there own this model and have used the slide and grill feature?

I'll be able to comment on this soon enough.
I ordered the DLX but UPS had my grill 'fall off the back of a truck' on it's way to be delivered today and is now being returned!!!
Ordering this grill and pretty excited about the slide and grill feature. Might make this a real all in one solution.
Are pellet grills useful for anything other than slow cooks or roasts? Trying to decide if I should plan on having a separate grill for burgers steaks and hot dogs

However, please note this model does NOT have the wifi PID, just the regular digital PID. Deal breaker for me to upgrade my old PG24DLX.
