Been waiting for the wharfedales but this is a solid price.
Edit: I am going to wait for the wharfedale lintons to go on sale.. the sound signature of the lintons sounds right for my type of music. I never thought the KLH model 5's would so at this point anything is possible.

Anyway, the price drop is almost certainly to bring their price in line with the Wharfedale Lintons, so this deal makes sense. It might end up being a permanent deal though because nearly all video reviews circulating give the Wharfedales a slight edge. They suit a completely different set of preferences but nonetheless dem review videos keep comparing them & say they prefer the Wharfedales, so the market follows.

They both say walnut on the back/packaging and both have the same grill color. Yet one looks more like the mahogany color. Weird. I've contacted KLH but who knows what they can do with something this heavy.
Man, that's a bummer. I ordered walnut too, they match and are breaking in rn...well hold up one looks a bit darker but one is also closer to a window. I'll report back
If you want better controlled dispersion, more even frequency response, more extended bass, better in room results, higher spl handling, built in amps, active crossovers with less distortion than loss passive crossovers, better port design, and more input options, get a Kali IN-8 and their subwoofer for slightly less and enjoy the higher fidelity coming from the black boxes that disappear better during movies.

Measurements and technical details are great and all, not discounting them, but at the end of the day it comes down to what your particular ears are telling you, and part of that has to do with your room and your gear. One should know what their goals are. Mine, in this case, is to find speakers I can listen to and ENJOY a wide range of genres, with zero listening fatigue, and not be in analysis mode picking apart every track. Instead, the speakers should produce an experience that makes me WANT to keep listening and enjoying more music.
I will check out the Kali IN8 out of curiosity though, since they sound like fantastic speakers in their own right.

I have heard that the Lintons may be warmer sounding, and the bass better for use for movies. They were definitely under consideration, especially considering their more attractive pricing, but I have bit of a preference for sealed speakers and like the treble adjustment knob of the KLH model 5. The model 5 also have magnetic grill covers which I like better. Having received and tested mine, I'm quite pleased with their musicality and their ability to keep me engaged and enjoying my music.
KLH raised the price of the model 5 by 25% from $2k to $2500, apparently due to supply chain issues, materials shortages, and/or inflation. But, as you said, it seems to make sense that the price drop may also be due to competition from the Lintons, and perhaps the price hike may not be lasting.
The model 7 are coming end of year, supposedly going to cost at least $4k a pair.

I originally was leaning towards the Walnut, since I prefered the lighter colored linen colored grill covers, but they were out of stock by the time I got to their site after coming across the deal. So I went for the Mahogany. Having now received them and seen them in person, I'm pleased with the Mahogany and not sure I would have liked the Walnut better because I might find them too dark for my taste and decor. Also, I'm wondering if the lighter Linen grill covers might yellow over time.
Unfortunately, one of my speakers got banged up, probably during transport, by UPS. There were like 6 to 8 inch gashes deep into the outer box and penetrating all the way through the inner boxes. One of the speakers wound up with a crumple in the lower left corner.
I just got a return label to ship that one back today and hope to get my brand new replacement within 10 to 14 days, this time hopefully in perfect condition from the outer shipping box in.
Some speakers are calibrated together and sold in sequential serial numbered pairs. I wasn't sure if that would be the case with KLH. Wondering if anyone might know?
