Never had a laser printer but every inkjet printer I've ever had (it's a bunch) has lasted about 3 years or less. Is it the same deal with laser printers?
...If it is then just plan on paying $99 for 2 years or less. (Knock a year of because it's a refurb.)
I don't know about their current quality, but our Brother HL-2140 from about 2010 is still going pretty strong. I did have to replace the drum once a few years back when the print quality started to go bad, and the toner a maybe about five times so far. Currently its hooked up to a mini router running OpenWrt as wireless print server. Actually sort of waiting for it to eventually die someday so I have an excuse to buy a color laser.

Laser printers, generally no.
Brother laser printers, definitely no, especially if it's one of the high selling long lasting models. I'm not sure why they have refurbs. My brother lasers just keep going and going. I stick to those popular models where they've sold bizilions of them. i sometimes wonder if selling refurbs is just another way for a manufacturing to sell off a big chunk of inventory without making the dealers upset. After all, it's a 'refurb' and not 'new'.

My brother hl-1440 from 2005 just died recently. LOL Got the RHLL2300D as a replacement along with the toner cartridge using the 5% off coupon above.
Oh, I hated that HL-1440 with a passion!!! Said I would never buy another Brother printer! I finally broke down and bought another Brother printer and now I love them! (just not that model!)
I noticed a few weeks ago that all the 8000 series color lasers had gone up about $40. The 8000 series is really nice and the additional toner you get with it pays for the difference in price over the 3000 series. In addition you get 2-3X the recommended duty life (including a longer lasting drum,) faster print speeds, frequently the ability to use less expensive per page higher yield cartridges, etc. I don't think anyone will regret "over spending" on a laser printer once they have had a chance to use it. On most, if not all, of these you can reset the cartridges when they read "empty" and get significantly more life out of them.
Damn, I've been waiting on the RMFCL3770CDW for a while and it's already out of stock.
These always sell out fast. I don't know if you'd be interested in an MFCL3710CW instead, but Quill has it new for $349.99 at the moment. 8 in stock and free shipping. Coupon code QX4DLR55 knocks $35 off that price for $314.99 final cost. Pretty nice deal in this market, and actually cheaper than the refurb. Here's a link:
I'm also curious about laster printer prices, are they much higher recently due to the supply chain issues? It seems like the original msrp were originally much lower than current prices for laser printers. I was thinking about buying a laser printer but may hold off if the prices are related to the supply chain.
I had to wait two weeks before ordering a Canon color laser MFP for a client because it was all OOS. Those machines were not cheap either, $600-800 a piece.
Is it worth keeping my old inkjet in storage despite having recently gotten a refurb Brother? I know the ink doesn't last long, and dries out, but it's hard to know if I'll regret getting rid of it for some reason

I have had my Brother 7360 for maybe 15 years, still no reason to replace.
