I drove for 20 minutes to a Best Buy the other day just to be told that my phone (Z Flip 3) was not on their trade in list, even though I said I did the same deal just a week ago at a different store. I argued for 20 minutes and didn't get anywhere, so the next day I went to a different store and got the deal in less than 10 minutes.
Not all Best Buy employees are trained the same, so don't be discouraged if one store says no, and just go to a different one.
Then, they may believe you but have trouble figuring out their system. When they pull up the model for the trade in, they have to go past the initial screen. When they do, the promo should show up. Then it's going to ask them for the promo code. That code is literally SAMSUNG. It's nowhere to be found otherwise.
I've traded in 3 phones under this promo because of the high values they're offering. Each experience varied.
1) First store did it without issue once I balked at the low trade in and mentioned the promo. He knew everything.
2) Second store couldn't figure out where the promo was and is responsible for the info I provided above.
3) Third guy refused, said they don't do trade ins and when shown the promo called his manager. Manager said Best Buy would have to be stupid to do this and refused. Lol. This was the same store as the first time, just different employees. Went to another store and they did it just fine.
Point is, the experience will vary widely depending upon the knowledge level of the employee. Just be polite and patient and stick to your guns. Most of them just aren't aware of the promotion or familiar with how to do it. One manager was so happy when I told her I thought I knew the promo code that she fist bumped me and thanked me profusely twice. Only one guy was a complete @$$.

The $899 S22U 256 in that sense is $300 off plus the $100 Free memory (and ram) upgrade
Second run to a different store (less busy) and the personnel actually helped me out even when they weren't sure how to move forward with the deal.
In the end, the phone wasn't in stock so I chose to ship it home. I traded in an unlocked note 20 ultra for unlocked s22 ultra activating on tmobile.
I printed out the promotional pages, showed them the deal was accessed from the s22 ultra product page live on their site, shared instructions on processing the trade in first towards a gift card toward a Samsung phone, spoke to 3 reps over two days, the store manager, and a regional Samsung manager/stooge, some of who you might think their jobs only exist to improve customer relations and smooth over promotional issues, but no.
Because the nearest competing BestBuy is an hour plus and I can't get the offer online, they just repeatedly couldn't find the deal in their system but if I wanted to try 80 miles away is my best chance.
That's a big poorly coded fark you.
It's entirely coincidental but paying a bum to smeer shit on their window costs less than any restocking fees and greatly improves your mood.
Also, how long do you have to keep a new line activated with one of the carriers? Can I just go home and immediately cancel it? If I'm getting two am I able to activate a new line on the first, then transfer that line to the second when activating it?
Thanks.

So I had issues just like many of us here, but I went to another location today and luckily the guy was amazing. The store ended up having the 256gb version in stock so I ended up trading my device today. Total price was about 175 out of pocket (99 bucks or so plus tax), given that I received $400 from T-mobile for activation and 800 trade in promo for my S21 Ultra.
THANK YOU FOR THE INITIAL POST!
What waste of my time
