Nothing wrong with asking questions, especially since more people being aware that crypto mining is starting to have diminishing returns will bring the price of these cards back to reasonable levels.

Most of the mining algorithms are designed to benefit from GPU architecture versus CPU architecture.

To equate it to something relatable think of the CPU architecture as the manager and the GPU as the factory workers. The CPU can "technically" do the same work as the GPU, but definitely not as efficiently.

In CPUs, each core has a thread allocation of 2 tops (one physical and one virtual if things like Hyperthreading are enabled). But generally speaking, all of the cores are designed to do a multitude of generic tasks.

In GPUs, each "core" is a smaller piece of potentially thousands of programmable cores all working in tandem to do smaller, but more purpose-built tasks that all add up to one larger task.

Mining basically leverages this in the same way worker ants operate.

Smh I remember people were paying this much just for the 3060 GPU late last year. 😂


edit: I forgot to mention this PC should come with 16gb of ram and a bigger SSD to be a solid deal at this price given the 10th gen CPU imo. It's not terrible i just think HP is still over pricing the 3060 in this build.

Not anymore, unless you can get a buyer in the next month or so.

They're about to stabilize back to pre-pandemic levels.

Nvidia announced new cards for this year, so the 3000 series will take the place of the 1600 series soon.

They didn't have a shortage? Where you been man? GPU's have been in short supply for the last 18 months. We're finally at the point where supply has caught up and mining conditions on ETH are so unfavorable right now that there are no new buyers.

Cpus we're fine in the very early days but now the coins popular today are either not made to be minable with cpus, or the CPU is so inefficient mining a coin that the cost of electricity is more than any amount of coin you would earn. Asics are the only thing I know of that mine profitably aside from GPUs .
