I would stick w/ gas for now unless it is on its last leg because in the last 2-3 years they have become much better but the battery situation can still be sticky. I would say in 2-3 years they may become mainstream but know these won't last 20 years like a gas mower and if a battery goes it could be hundreds of dollars. And they will go. If you have 0.5 acre or more I would be real cautious. Purely my opinion.
Money-wise it is no comparison gas wins by a mile. Now if you have excess cash and an environmental bent (or live in Cali which is outlawing everything) then you may be swayed. 100%, I have moved to all electric because I tired of the gas/fluid issues and also I have an environmental leaning but that is me.

Like another poster above, I have 1/4 acre and it can do the entire lawn on a single charge, but if I let my grass get too high, it sometimes doesn't complete the job at once.
Only complaints I have with mine is the pull out knobs that allow the handle to fold down have a pin that hold them in place that would frequently fall out. I had to eventually replace them with small cotter pins so they would stay in place. The other complaint is the mulch plug/bag have to be seated just right or the mower won't start. But those are minor issues compared to changing oil, replacing filters, and having to run to the gas station.

So my comments might not be exactly right for this particular mower.
I will say, it has less "suction" than bigger/older gas mowers I have used in the past. If you run over a dandelion that's kind of laying down, it might stay down whereas a more powerful mower might have enough updraft to lift it and chop it.
I hadn't actually mowed a lawn in a decade before buying it (apartments) so I can't make as many direct comparisons, but I love how quiet, easy to use push around, and low-maintenance it is.
The one in this deal seems like an improvement given it includes side discharge. Saw one in Home Depot last weekend and it looked nice.
These things are so easy to push that there's no reason to want self-propulsion. Maybe with a bigger/hillier lawn, but then you're probably going to look for a bigger mower anyways.
This is my second battery-powered mower. Love it.
Should I sell that and get this one? Lawn has some slopes.

I went and swapped it at the store and the second one worked fine. Seems just as strong as a gas mower to me. I'll recommend getting an extra battery though. I got a refurbished leaf blower with a 4.0ah battery from another post here, really only because the battery was practically free, and I need both batteries to finish the front and back of my yard. Average sized lawn.. You will likely need a second battery if you're taking more than the ~40 minutes or so.
Tried it on a test pass around the lawn and ran into some issues with the self-propelled functionality:
- There was a noticeable delay before it would engage
- When it did engage, it was rather jumpy
- When mowing the edge of the grass where one wheel was on the grass and the other wheel was on the concrete, the wheel on the concrete didn't really grip and wanted to spin out, making it significantly more difficult to control vs. when both wheels were on the grass (a major issue, since I'll be primarily using it for the edge of the yard next to the curb that I have difficulties getting close to with my riding mower)
Not sure if this is functioning as designed (but just designed poorly), or if I just got a lemon.
This is my second battery-powered mower. Love it.
I have a Brushless Ryobi and it doesn't really mulch. Grass clippings are fairly long and leaves don't get ground up very well.
If I lived in a nicer neighborhood I would probably have to go back to gas to not be the guy with the ugly lawn. (Or bag, but bagging sucks.)
Not having to deal with gas, oil, carbs, etc. is really great though. I would hate to have to go back.
There are LOTS of repair videos that tell you how to bypass this bad flaw,etc. Very easy fixes.
I will say that the 2nd gen (I'm guessing) also has a. It of an issue with the handle wanting to collapse. I tend to hit it when going in narrow spots. Not super often, but maybe once every 5 times mowing.
One thing no one has talked about is that these are so light that the I think they are great gifts for the elderly.
I have an 80 year old lady neighbor that does her own lawn with this mower. It's great to stay active and also something they wouldn't be able to had it been gas. Gas is so much heavier.
