FYI....

The 2022 model has no upgrade in the Roku box itself. The only upgrade is in the remote. Wow, that's disappointing...

This has been $70 at target for a week and a half

I don't believe any of the 3rd party Ethernet adapters work on the Roku stick. So the biggest advantages of the ultra over the stick are the hardwired network connection as well as the ability to play local files off a usb drive. I own 5 Roku's - two series 3, and 2017 stick, a TCL TV and a 2021 Ultra. They all work pretty much the same, except the ultra is quicker/more responsive. Also the TV has a line of sight remote which I hate.

Can anyone explain why they choose a Roku over an equivalent Amazon Fire or Google TV device? Is it the voice search? Because that actually does work well. Not trying to throw shade, I honestly just don't get the appeal.

Well I want to basically stay in the same ecosystem and have provided rokus for my mother and grandmother. Roku just works, takes very little setup and rarely gives issues. I have a Sheild and some android sticks that I use sometimes too but like I said the family uses roku so it's just easier that way. Or older people, young kids or people who are tech illiterate roku is perfect

Also forgot about the spectrum app on Roku. Plus when I got into roku android streamers weren't really a thing

Amazon's interface is littered with ads and Google doesn't have every app. Roku's interface may be dated but it is simple. The downside to Roku is that they love to fight with content providers.

Netflix buying ROKU has them liquidating inventory I suspect.

I believe that's just rumor now. Unless something has changed in the last couple of hours.

So, just to be clear, the model at Target for $70 is identical to the one at Amazon for $80?

I'm curious what's the advantage of having these over the respective 'stick' / 'Dongle' counterparts? At least with Fire TV cube, that device doubles up as a voice assistant, has IR blaster control etc.

Roku 4k stick, Fire TV 4K Max, Google Chromecast TV 4K all sell for around $40 mark. Even if you need wired LAN or USB support, there are adapters that help you accomplish the same with a stick.

I'm not downplaying this deal, but as a Stick user, would like to know what I'm missing out.
This supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Those sticks don't. Some will support Dolby Vision, but not Atmos, and Atmos is a game changer if you have a sound system that supports it. Not to mention that this just runs faster.

Netflix is not buying Roku, as of this moment. It's currently just speculation. These things have been going on sale every few weeks, since last year.

This runs faster, and supports both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Depending on which Fire or Google device you get, you probably won't get both of those things. Not to mention that Roku is just the leader. They get more apps, and their apps tend to be built better.

Netflix is losing tons of money, and Roku is the top selling streaming device in the USA and possibly the world, so I don't see how Netflix could afford to buy Roku, even if they wanted to. Disney (which owns Hulu and Disney+), which has more money than most countries in the world, would be way more likely to either buy Roku, or put out a competing product.

Roku is worth about 13 billion, Netflix is worth about 90 billion, using cash on hand, Netflix would secure funding for the other 7 billion via shares or loans.

Netflix has a recurring income from service that cannot be replicated, its a household name that most people use. Roku on the other hand, several devices and manufacturers can make the same product.

P.S. Amazon Fire tv is actually more popular, and those devices stink.

Netflix is not losing money. Their net income last quarter was $1.6B.

You know who is losing money? Roku. Their position is becoming less dominant all of the time. Their margins on boxes are small and they don't produce their own content to drive revenue. Beyond boxes they are an ad company.

Netflix market cap is $90B. Roku's is $14B. If Netflix wants to buy Roku, they can do so pretty easily.
