YMMV.as it appears to be targeted to users with a 3G device currently active on a line

I took the plunge today - fingers crossed that Promotion (P038) gets applied correctly, even though I wasn't originally notified via text or could find an official "offer" on my account at T-Mobile's website. I've had a qualifying iPhone 5 on my one of my T-Mobile lines for over a week now, but that didn't trigger any notification from T-Mobile. I used "chat" feature of the T-Mobile App to request assistance with ordering an iPhone using Promo P038. The agent took some time to research the promo, asked me to send screen shots of the promo and asked me to verify details of my trade-in iPhone. Then the agent responded - "Thank you - You are qualified for this promotion. Let me go ahead and process this trade-in."W

First 2 attempts via chat in the app were futile.
First rep had no idea what P038 was.
The second rep knew of the promo and at first claimed I qualified.
But then she said since I wasn't targeted she could not give me the promo.
Finally tried T-Force. After confirming I had an iPhone 5 on active on a line he said no problem and took care of the promo.
Of course I will be watching my account closely to make sure it was applied correctly.
Time's up! Your phone will experience service interruptions after July 1, 2022 when the 3G network shuts down. Visit your local T‑Mobile store to get a new iPhone SE ON US. Act today to avoid service interruptions."
I just have to do it in-store now i guess.

I recommend you call ASAP and have the CSR change it for you and if the CSR can't they will leave notes on your account so the next person (the trade-in QC guy) who accepts your trade-in will credit you the amount as shown on your account notes.

- Did not get promo email
- Put sim into 3GS, but got recognized as Iphone XS. I tried again with Iphone 5c and it got properly recognized.
- Went to T-mobile.com, logged in and initiated the chat on the website. Chat window seems to show up during off peak hours (late night, early morning). Asked if I qualify for P1 promo, rep didn't know what it was so I sent them the details straight from the website. Rep came back and asked what phone I was trading in. Made the rep confirm to me the exact details of the P1 that would be applied to my account and screenshot it.
- Purchased IPhone 11. Shipping was waived, but they charged me a service fee. I asked if they could waive it for me. They said they could not waive it, but that amount would be credited to my account. They did honor that request and I saw a credit on my account immediately.
This process took about an hour.
- Ask the rep to put in your account notes that you qualify and have promo P1 applied to your account. I forgot to do this and might have saved some headache in the next steps.
- Rep did not give me shipping label so I though I could just go to store to trade in. T-mobile store was operated by 3rd party and said they could not take my phone and must be mailed in. Gave me shipping label. Shipping label did not match the size and color of phone. Showed trade in value of $0.
- Received phone. Checked account and I did not have any promo info on the EIP line.
- Contacted T-Force on twitter for two reasons:
1) To make sure I can get the full $430 trade value even if the shipping label did not match my phone exactly
2) I knew I was going to have to work to make the P1 promo stick. Did not want to take the chance two billing cycles later
- 1st rep on T-force confirmed that it was okay to trade in phone if it didn't match, the value of the trade in phone just needed to match $0. Rep asked what promo the trade in phone was for and answered them
- 2nd rep logs on. Checks my account and tells me my account does not qualify for P1. I needed to receive an email to qualify. Told them another Tmobile rep said I did qualify and I wouldn't have purchased the phone if I didn't qualify. 2nd rep asks for me to go through the return process to ship the phone back... WTF? more back and forth... I went to bed heated, unresolved.
- Next day back to twitter 3rd rep, I asked again if promo P1 will be applied because another rep told me I qualified. Super energetic and bubbly response "...I have already enrolled your line for the promotion specified and you should see this in one to two bill cycles!"
- Didn't know which rep to believe in at this point. Checked account 2 days later and the promo got posted!
I did not even send in my phone yet and the promo is posted, is this expected or probably because the rep pushed it onto my account?
For me personally, I've always had to usually work for these T-Mobile deals, very rarely a straightforward transaction. But to T-Mobile's defense their customer service always comes though. Might have to go though different reps, but I have always gotten the deal in the end with some work. I avoid calling a rep like the plauge. Much easier and I spend a lot less time going through Twitter or FB.
My iPhone 5 already won't work any longer.
