It is SMR so it has slower write speeds.
Not great for anything other than a backup drive, not a main boot drive.
It depends on what's your use case. For most regular home users whose use case is to store the files, it doesn't matter. But if you are planning to run something off it - I would 'recommend' CMR. But it costs at least 50% more.

I think These are OEM drives. so no warranty other than from Amazon and seller. but still a great deal for some cheap mass storage.

Were WD Blue drives always SMR? For some reason, I thought they weren't.

I have one of these drives as my secondary storage. SMR/CMR, it runs fine for normal useage. Purchased this drive from Amazon, registered it with WD and per WD warranty check, it is under warranty until March 2025

I did notice it has firmware 80.00A80 on mine. That is the same firmware as the WD Red 4TB. So what is the difference between this blue drive vs the WD Red SMR 4TB?

No suggestion. In those cases, speed is a non-factor.

Personally, I'll always spend a few extra dimes for name brands that have been around for decades, but that's less relevant in this case.

Who knows. That listing is so generic you have no idea what you will get. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was really a refurb or pull from a server. Good luck finding out the actual specs on the drive or trying to claim the warranty if it dies after a couple months.

I have this blue drive as my game drive in my PC and it's been 100% fine. I paid a similar price and I'm totally happy with the purchase. I wouldn't use it, or really any HD, as my boot drive or only drive in a PC but since pretty much by definition HD's are relegated to bulk storage at this point the drive works fine for that.
