Thanks for posting this! I bought one at $650 from the other deal posted here:

https://slickdeals.net/f/15814264-lenovo-legion-5-17-3-fhd-ips-ryzen-5-5600h-gtx-1650-8gb-ddr4-256gb-ssd-649?v=1&src=SiteSearch

I was able to get Walmart to refund the $50 price difference as a price adjustment, because I took delivery of it just 7 days ago (didn't even have to do the hassle of a return-rebuy).

I posted a bit of a mini-review in the other thread if anyone is interested. This thing is NICE, especially if your uses are more than just high-end gaming. Bought this for a daily driver, playing the occasional game, so the 60Hz screen doesn't bother me at all. Extremely well built machine for the price. I'm throwing in some more memory and a 1TB SSD, and it should last me a few years.
It's definitely upgradable.
60hz isn't the best for a gaming laptop but at least the color and brightness levels aren't terrible like we usually see at this price.

I'm looking to upgrade my old laptop, mostly for coding and data science homework but would like a gaming machine for my kids as well. Is there a better deal out there than this one? I'm willing to go up on specs if it means up on price to meet 'The Sweet Spot' of value and performance.

Nothing comes closer to this lenovo legion 5 specs with 17.3" 100% SRGB screen and great thermal and 80wh battery. The legion 5 is probably the best overall budget gaming notebook out there. Hp had $450-$500 15.6 Inch gaming but it was very bad compared to legion 5. I had 3 hp notebooks they all lasted only 1.5-2.5 years. Everything I had from hp ran super hot.

Is it double ram slot?
Yes. The 8GB DDR4 3200 sodimm it comes with is 1Rx16 not 1Rx8 though.

Either add a second similar 8GB 1Rx16 module (mine had a Hynix original module), or pick up a couple matching 8GB or 16GB chips.

Interesting that one of the photos on the listing indicates 1080p 144hz. I see so many walmart deals on laptops with big picture / description discrepancies.

This is the latest legion 5 laptop right?
Would you say the thermals are better for light tasks like reading a pdf file or excel. Because I had the legion slim 7 and it would turn on occasionally. The sound of the fan was not pleasant. I'm hoping with this bigger chassis the sound would be smoother

My purpose is for occasional gaming, but mostly productivity. I don't mind throwing an extra 8g ram if that makes it better

I agree. HP is a mini space heater. Even the business line!

It is the current generation with the improved cooling. Seems to run cool and quiet when used for websurfing and office tasks.

Do you have any brand recommendation or link? I just bit the bullet and bought the laptop. Wondering which RAM will be good

For $100 more, you get a 3050 but smaller screen: https://www.walmart.com/ip/376101774

Is this a better deal? Don't care about screen size as I'll use an external monitor. Other specs look similar.

For you I'd suggest getting RTX 3060 equipped laptop, because it has double the performance, useful for machine learning and gaming. Just make sure the 3060 is the 130w tdp version for full performance.

Deals like these are the sweet spot:
6 cores (5600h)

Not bad price for a 17".

But that 8 GB of memory, if upgradeable, that would be wonderful.

I dont play game at all. I do light video/photos editing. Will that GTS1650 benifit me over the intergrated graphic from other cheaper laptop?

This is an ok deal. I got this early 2020 for ~$800 after taxes and it has a better screen and 16gb ram. Added a 1tb WD ssd and now I have tons of space. Still, at this price point there isn't anything better and Lenovo is a good brand.
