Sure- we're flying Singapore air business class from NYC to Germany, roundtrip, for 144k miles.
For sure - if your goal is to fly in premium cabins, then MR points via transfers can be fantastic, as you've pointed out.
The trouble for some potential cardholders - especially in the slickdeals crowd - is that flying in biz/first isn't really a necessity, especially on relatively short transatlantic flights. And yes, points can go toward economy/prem econ travel, although those redemption rates tend not to be as dramatic. And any of the advantages requires transferring to an airline partner, which may or may not work out for a given itinerary. Ultimately, if you don't really want to play the transfers game to get premium tickets, then the MR award suddenly becomes far less exciting.

Well, the one I mention is over 8 hours, one way... being able to arrive not just well fed, but well rested, is pretty fantastic, often giving you a free day each way that you'd have otherwise spent tired and jet-lagged.
Even more so on longer flights.

Well, the person to whom I was responding was specifically asking for examples of the highest value ways to redeem the points.
You can of course do econ redemptions too, and they won't ever be 10 cents a point, but they'll virtually always be a LOT better than any non-airline option in value..... (avios for short haul domestic- especially when a transfer bonus is being offers- is a great example of that)

You are on the money . The points game is not for everyone , and if you are in the points game and not redeeming it for high quality hotels or flights , then you might as well just get a cash back card
I just signed up for the platinum card. How long do I have to wait to apply for the gold ?
Amex does not have a hard and fast rule like Chases 5/24. However the unwritten rule is 2 in 30 days . If you have not applied to any other card you should be good

I just did the blue business plus too. Guess I'll wait the 30 days
