I just wanted to make sure I understand the full deal.

You're actually buying the 360-day 8gb plan, with 8gb data per month bonus, totaling 16gb per month.

Very tempted to move to this from a post-pay family plan i'm on, just have to buy out and unlock my phone, port my number to tmobile then back to att),

I was considering the boost plan, but since my phone gets it's updates from att, i want to ensure i get security updates still. this plan gaurentees that, the boost plan, i'm not sure (since it is at&t towers). I'm on wifi 95% of the time too, so the 35gb from boost isn't really a deal breaker.
correct. One thing is the 8gb bonus data does not rollover. That means if you use 8gb of data in a month, your next month will rollover 0. That means only way to get 24gb of data is to not use any for an entire month.

If anyone didn't already know you can turn off data in google maps and download the local maps. Works great with no phone service at all provided you aren't in high traffic areas

What does myprepaid portal say on this bonus data? I'm interested because on the website it doesn't say that however I have been through the walmart 25 GB rodeo... My MIL recently renewed on the 8GB plan so not sure if I want to go through all the pain.

so based on your theory next month should be 8gb of bonus data plus 8 rolled over and 8 baseline

If you don't use more than 8gb this month of the bonus date

We shall see

and that's where you got in a vicious cycle

As per my many posts and recommendations I suggest you get a new number!! and then set up the new number and just call port activations to port over old number onto new number

Case in point I just set up an account from scratch for a friend and from setup to port it was less than 30 minutes and the port was instantaneous from tmobile to att prepaid!
So just to be clear when you say get a new number, activate, then call port activations, you dont have to do anything at all with your existing number before you sign up for the new plan (other than maybe check that it says the number is eligible to port). Then once you activate the plan with a new number you only have to get the account and pin info from your old carrier and call port activations with that info to replace the new number with the port.

Wait the bonus date is used first?? I thought it was the other way around. So if you used 8 GB of data the first month you will carry 8 over to the next (I know is doesn't compound month to month to month). I was under the impression that if you used 8GB it would be your regular 8GB plan data and thus you would carry over 0 to the next month. Not that I think I'm ever going to get them to correct the error and give me the 16GB anyway, still messing around trying to get that corrected.

I would suggest before anyone tries to do the port they check if their number is eligible. https://www.att.com/wireless/tran...IGIBILITY3

If it's not eligible on that page chances are good your going to have an issue at some point getting it over.

And just got notified that my second "case" I opened yesterday was closed out by ATT in the same manner as the first one. Two cases in two days both closed out as saying I'm not eligible for the 16GB promotion, called and was told again that I was not eligible because I ported a number therefore not considered a "new" line. This is what I was told yesterday at first then later in the call the CS rep agreed with me that ported in numbers certainly should qualify for the promo and assured me they would be able to get it sorted out. This is total BS, I imagine many many people getting this promo are porting in a number. Isn't that part of the reason for the promo to allure new customers to port in from other carriers. I'm leaving on vacation in two hours and will not get a chance to call them again until late next week, giving up hope on getting this to work correctly. It's still a decent deal at 8GM but I would likely have not jumped on transfering my son over to it at 8GB as he will have to be a little mindful of his usage, 16 would have been enough.

Website says "online offer" so you can't do it in store -- I would also avoid calling in to sign up

Best option is to order and activate online only -- enter service zip code as the area/region where your regular number is from so you get a new temp number from same region then call port dept to port your number over

Yes -- had a similar monthly plan few years back and it was the same

Promo and rollover data was used first since that expires -- regular data is used last since that can be rolled over
