If you play on a PC/laptop, No.
I believe the proprietary controllers like Luna and Stadia gamepads have better integration/response when playing on the TV.
I used an Xbox controller with both Luna and Stadia on a desktop PC and it works flawlessly.
I even used it with Playstation Now and it works about 95% of the time...

After looking into it, I don't think so unless you want a controller with alexa the "luna" service works just fine on phones without it/with other controllers
Thanks OP! Been wanting some quality controllers for my Batocera build. XBox One controllers would work but have gone up in price and the reviews of the build quality for the Luna controllers is very positive. Figure I can use Luna on my phone while traveling but keep them mostly at home with Batocera.
