It's for shaving a door or gate that is slightly too wide/tall and sticking in the frame.

Usually if a door isn't closing you need to adjust the hinges to get it straight and level again, but sometimes wood swells or new flooring is slightly higher etc and you just need to take a bit off

Just hope it can shave a hollow core door that has the edges frayed from sticking without ripping the side pieces off.

Anyone know of an equivalent tool that will do the same for the bottom of a door? This wont work because the tool is too thick for clearance to the floor.

You are supposed to take the door off the hinges first.

Save your money and buy a planar. They are not that expensive when you are able to grab one on sale. The right tool for the right job.

Thats the whole reason why they invented a tool like this so you would not need to take the door off the hinges. Its an external door and a bit heavy. I just want to trim 1/8 - 1/16" off the bottom. Taking the door off the hinges and putting the slab on sawhorses and putting it back on would take me around 1 - 1 1/2 hours. Trimming it would take about 5 min. So I wanted to save me the time.
