I bought this, I returned both the Acer from Target and Lenovo from Bestbuy for this.

If I'm paying $200, I want more or expandable RAM. Expandable is a no-show in Chromebooks, and 4 GB is pervasive at budget levels. But you could get around this with Chrome OS Flex [youtube.com] installed on something like the Ryzen 3 3250U systems (although it is still in beta).

They can many early ones were upgradable. Sadly they stopped making them that way. HP used to make them with a DDR slot that was hard to get to.

The $79 Lenovo is great for it's price. It doesn't have a vivid screen but it gets 7-10 hours of battery life, a decent keyboard, great connectivity options and memory card slot. Plus it has 64gb storage as opposed to 32b like a lot of $100 chromebook deals I have seen here.

I love the $79 Lenovo for traveling with, or to keep around for guests who use the guest room. The $199 chromebook is bigger but still doesn't seem to have a fantastic screen though it is IPS at least. For $199 I feel like I'd hold out for something that comes along with a vivid screen.

There is one type of Chrome OS product that has slots these days: the "Chromebox" [androidcentral.com].

The solution for getting more RAM into a Chromebook, or just getting a better selection of specs and price points to choose from, will be to buy a Windows laptop and put Chrome OS Flex on it.

I have an ASUS S536. It has 8GB of ram which seems enough for most everything. I can have 50 or so tabs open at once on my monitor and play a game on it at the same time with no real problem. It is an I3 1115g4 dual core. It does 4k @ 60hz. HDMI 2.0,

It is not upgradable but seems 8GB is enough. My other Chromebook with 4 GB was only enough for 9 tabs to be open. It did 4K@30hz. Enough for me most of the time.
