Sent into Seagate for warranty recovery/replacement. Catastrophic failure of the HDD is why it failed and the data is unrecoverable because of, "damage to the platters from the arm." I'm told. They send me a refurbished unit. That's right... 5 days of use. Company admitted catastrophic failure. You get a refurb. Tired of the back and forth email. I set it up to be a backup storage unit for a Mac pro tower. 1 week later. 7 f'ing days that one stops responding. I think I wrote about 2 to 3 GB of data to it. Just a power up and then a loud click. Then (Drive Error) pops up. These are garbage. I'm still fighting to get my money back. Seagate still wants to send me a refurbished unit. I have a Lacie that is years old. Nothing wrong. A WD My Book... 4 years old. Totally fine. Two Seagates take a dump inside of 90 days.

Right now the big problem with WD is their customer service has gone to the dogs with warranty service and their external drives seem to be experiencing significant failures around 8-12 months and rhe USB cable they supply is crap and will start to show problems quickly.
So, stop with the WD vs Seagate religious debate and read reviews of what people are reporting.
I've had 8 external hard drives die on me over the years and 6 of them have been Seagate; make of that fact what you will. I avoid Seagate externals if I can due to my personal history with their high failure rates.
But I'm willing to hold my nose and bury my biases if the deal is good. I absolutely avoid anything PNY manufactured though. I've had several PNY USB and SSD drives fail on me; about an 80% failure rate which is unacceptable...
I prefer Shuckable. Its not WD VS Seagate thing at all and IF WD returned to the old way, I would not have to mention this.

All 5tb 2.5" are same from all manufacturing... The only difference is whether it's shuckable... So this is the best 2.5" hdd out there.
