How so? We aren't talking about a dual-CPU Sandy Bridge system with multiple GPUs here; this is a basic 6th gen with limited ad-ons. I wouldn't expect more than 20-25W average.

Assuming 25W average, that's less than $32/year running 24/7 at the US average 14.47 cents/kWh. You might be able to knock $20 a year off that number if you get a super power efficient 8W system, but I wouldn't call a delta of $0.05 a day costly. (Obviously this may change a bit for people in CA/AK/HI or the north east, but even then we're still only talking maybe $0.10/day.)

If you're interested in this, also check goodwill online. I have an i3-6100 based SFF machine I won in auction for ~ $50 recently.

Indeed great for home servers

Looking up some specs, I wonder why this site lists the max SATA hard drive to be limited to 1TB? Even considering this is a 6 year old computer, it should be able to support larger TB drives.

It should. Dell isn't into whitelist like hp or lenovo, but to be safe I would look at what chipset this uses and check Intel ark. Or you could just bypass it and buy a pcie x1 sata adapter. Worked for my i5 4th Gen home server.

Interesting? Maybe a software limit from old OS shipped with? I would highly doubt there would be a limit to the size of Sata that can be read. Limiting factor would be the number of ports. It's more software to support the actual size vs a hardware limitation I would think. I have an even older hp in this form factor and have 4 sata hdds plugged in with over 6tb of storage and it's even older hardware, 4th gen intel.

I've got a 10tb drive in mine. Can probably go as big as they make them.

Is this recommended to run Plex?

I'm using an i5-6600k on a Z170 board to run my plex server, Plexi.

Can verify that I have 2 2TB drives, 1 6 TB drive, and 1 4TB drive all attached and working.

I even stream my 4k rips flawlessly.

How loud noisy hot is this? I want to put it in a regular clothes closet where I have wired my TV to it and added outlets. Currently it's only modem and routers and gets hot lol

Overkill, and the power consumption would get costly, quickly.
