Be sure to watch YT for installations. Common installation mistakes for above items include over-tightening and tightening wrong direction.

Start with these 2 videos and be patient:

How to Adjust a Front Derailleur [youtu.be]
How to Adjust a Rear Derailleur [youtu.be]

One main reason MTB/gravel riders upgrade to 1x (one by) drivetrain is to simplify the derailleur adjustments. This bike can be upgraded to 1x later, but would require upgrading the rear hub/wheel. There's nothing wrong with 3x drivetrain on this bike. In my opinion, 1x is more of a quality-of-life upgrade, others might tell you 1x also saves weight.

29'er and 700c wheels are the same size, so sure you could go with narrower 700c tires. I didn't measure rim width, but can't imagine these budget wheels would be wider than 35mm so any wider 700c tires should work. Do realize stock 2.1" tire width is already on the narrow side for XC. Any narrower and you start compromising trail handling. But if you stick to gravel or very gentle green trails, I see zero issues.
Yup, that's what I figured. I think for the most part the riding will be on road and maybe some light gravel/dirt. Nothing too crazy so I might just swap tires then. I'll let her try it out some more of course before I swap.

Next question. Anyone look into swapping out drivetrain? Thinking of grabbing one and doing a little upgrade since the frame seems decent enough. From what I can see would need new bottom bracket, crank, rear derailleur, rear shifter, front derailleur/shifter if not going 1X, and new rear wheel.

Spot-on, plus new chain if going beyond 8 speed cassette. And if you can lace up wheels, then just a new rear hub would do. I ordered 18" for my friend, and roughly priced 1x11 entry/mid-range drivetrain between $150 - $200 total. I'll throw in my labor. He wouldn't need it now, and price would continue to fall the longer he waits.

Ya, seems like what I saw too. And yes forgot about that chain. Stick Out Tongue

1x11 seems like it'd be relatively easy to do. Could relace the wheels but cost wise looks like there are reasonably priced wheels in the $100 range. You figure 30 bucks for spokes, 50 bucks for a hub, and you're not far off. I love building wheels but in this case for a cheapie off roader might be more time efficient to just buy the wheel.

May I ask where you could source a rear 29er wheel for $100, hopefully with sealed bearings and decent engagements? I used to be able to get front and rear wheelsets with decent tires and tubes for < $150 pre-pandemic. Not sure when that price would return if ever.

Decent engagement. Ah now you're making it hard Smilie.

I just did a random search last week and I'm pretty sure there were several in the 100-150 price range. Didn't look into it much more than that so no idea the quality of hubs/rims.

Modernbike seems to have one for like $105. Never bought from them before though.

Nice. Will have to look through so many wheels! Was planning to relace a Koozer rear hub myself for ~$70. Will see what they have close to that price.

Back in stock. Just ordered a 20" for $179
Did yours ship? I ordered a 20" on 7/20 called Monday and was told it was on backorder but after checking other warehouses they were going to ship it from the Kentucky warehouse. no updates so called again today and now its out of stock, none on backorder and they're cancelling the order. Hope you have better luck

Best not to call. I posted that before since when I called many weeks ago before my order was shipped I got the feeling they just wanted to cancel it. I had to repeat many times not to cancel the order. It did finally ship just took forever.

Received mine out of the blue today. No tracking. Assembly super easy - if I can do it you can do it.

Aaaaaaand it's huge. I'm 5'7 and went with the 18" and I'm pretty sure I need a step stool. Need to see if they sent the 20". Otherwise if I hacksaw the seat post lower it might work.

came across this deal at $179 for the 20", seems like its a good buy. I'm 5'9" will the 20" be okay or too big? Don't mind leaning the bike some if needed to get on it for this price point. Looking for a budget mountain bike, GT aggressor pro at $399 or this at $179

Placed an order for this at $179 plus tax.
Did buy the wife a bike this morning too, hurley teton electric bike at $399 shipped.

I confirmed mine's 18" (a few people in the thread received the wrong size) and it's tall enough that I'm either going to purchase a shorter seat post or take a hack saw to this one so that I can lower the seat further (the seat post hits the frame and doesn't lower all the way). I have relatively short legs so if you have longer legs it may be less of a problem for you.

Based on the 18", my big concern with a 20" would be if I had to ditch it or slipped off a pedal. The 18" is snug to the important bits unless I'm on my tip toes; the 20" would be a voice-changer.

Mind sharing your height? Top bar isn't too high? I'm 5-9, we'll within the 5-6 to 5-10 heights that the 18" is supposed to fit, and that top bar is a ball crusher!
I ordered the 20" at $179, I'm 5'9". Bike will be mainly on road use and light trail maybe. Seems like the bike might be a tad tall for me. Able to lean it side some if needed?

They dont list L which is the most important part of this bike. Did we come up with stand over height for all three sizes. I tried to go back in the list but I didnt see for the 20". I'm mostly curious where you would get off the bike and stand right in front of the seat, since the bar is curved up, hard to measure exactly how high it is. The top bar is kind of a strange angle, would have fit a lot more riders if it went more straight and then up. I like having the headtube a bit higher which is why I like a little bigger bike.

any luck on finding the L lengths? wondering if I should cancel the 20" I ordered, I'm 5'9".
