Adding a NVME SSD is almost the first thing you need to do with this machine.

There's an empty M.2 slot, which can accept a 2280 form factor "gumstick" NVME SSD (but not a SATA M.2). Spend $40 more to get one & make it as the system drive. It will greatly improve the performance of this laptop.

The 1TB "old" HDD could be kept and used as media storage…

You don't need to. License is linked to bios. So just switch drive and reload windows.

I agree that one should add NVME, but as someone who has been out of the updating world for awhile, how do you transfer the OS to that drive? And would it make sense to change the SATA to an SSD?
Just reinstall Windows. The laptop will have the OS key stored in the BIOS. That way everything is fresh for you to start using the laptop.

Silver backlit keyboard on the silver frame is one of the only things keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Pretty good specs for the price, with the exception of the HDD. As stated, you could continue to use the spinner for media storage. So maybe add $30 for a 512 GB M.2. The 12 GB of RAM probably doesn't need to be upgraded for most users, but the option is there.

The 17.3" screen is a highlight at this price, for those who need a large screen.
Screen is big but lower quality. 45% NTSC. 250 nits is also on the dim side.

I returned my ASUS for the same reason. Very obnoxious.

if i got this one would upgrade the Wifi card (nic) to wifi 6e with bluetooth 5.2 a very cheap upgrade but gives you better bluetooth performance including 2 speakers at once also longer distance from source device. Plus a little future proofing with the added 6ghz band for the wifi

Looking for a laptop for my wife. She's working from home on some websites and needs one. Nothing heavy like photo/video editing. Will this be a good option?

Never heard of "TeamGroup" drives, how reliable are they?

I want to make sure I can " blur vitural background" on my Zoom meeting. Does this laptop support it? I bought an Asus $250 Ryzen 3 last month but it didn't support "blur virtual background " on Zoom.

Do you have a link to a recommended card model? I would like to connect two sources

Been looking for a reasonably priced laptop for astro imaging and a few other Windows centric tasks... Anyone into astrophotography who could comment on how this laptop would perform? Newbie to the hobby here so I don't need anything crazy sophisticated.
