Want to buy it but seems fishy. One part says it's only collagen from bovine. Another graphic says it also has spirulina. Another graphic says vegan and vegetarian. Doesn't add up.
I posted a followup, a better collagen powder deal than this by a far more reputable and established manufacturer/ seller, and at a slightly better per pound price, and received a warning and had my post expunged instantly, because the seller supposedly "has a Lifetime Seller Rating of 385 (must have 750+)." How do 948 ratings (74% 5 star, 13% 4 star) translate into a seller rating of 385? Where is this Lifetime Seller Rating chart and the specifics on how it is calculated?

That's correct. I have known this. However, whenever I use "collagen protein" supplementation, ( as opposed to protein from meat or even whey protein), I see immediate effect on my hair. My hair turns incredibly healthy looking, shiny, and smooth silky.
so basically what you are saying is that it's doing something. what it is doing you have no idea, you just take it because you see it do something that you think is good. long term effects are irrelevant right.

Dude. It's collagen. It's a protein. It's in every living being and is not going to hurt you. The guy feels like it helps him.
Personally, when I take collagen supplements, I know for 100% certain my hair grows faster and my nails do too. Quality and shine, meh, but they certainly grow faster.

so you basically self diagnosed yourself and assumed that this none regulated thing is the fix . . .
He is simply saying everything breaks down to a basic form which is amino acids and the body will utilize it how it needs. So if life is so simple, why does he brag about graduating from Yale? Is he saying all the other colleges are beneath him and the other colleges do not provide the same basic science information? The small intestine works more than what was discussed by him, but everyone has a story to tell.

Do you get enough protein from your diet or take whey protein supplements? I wonder if that's because you weren't getting enough protein through other means so taking collagen might have helped with a deficiency.

I didn't feel like he was saying that to brag about his degree. It was more so to establish credibility for the viewers in my opinion. I don't think he bashed any other college or medical practitioner, just simply stated his views.
This is a great brand assuming their natural origin claims are real. They wouldn't provide any sort of lab certifications so as not to disclose "company secrets" though.

I was about to respond to him exactly the same before I read your comment. You read my mind.

You are missing the point. He already explained it to you it is amino acid you are getting just as you would get from "normal" or "regular" meat and othe plants and food sources etc. It is just that this is in more readily available form for the body to do less work and absorb the nutrition readily and faster.
However, I can give you a point to ponder, what you could be arguing if processed form, as this is, of anything is a good idea for the body. Hope this helps
(And your assertion of "regulations" by the corrupt political system telling me what to eat or not is not something I care about, but the science only)

I don't care about him or his brag or Yale. But, I can attest to the basic biology that he explained. We don't need full lecture on digestive system for out Biology exams. We just need to know basic science here in a nutshell. And the basic principle is correct. However, what we should be arguing if there any additives in this or if "processed" form has somehow any possible detrimental effects.

That's a good point. However, doesn't apply to me. I eat meat, and veggies everyday. My green smoothies do have incredible effect on my skin, hair, nails. But, whenever I have taken collagen supplements, my nails grow fast within a day, and hair becomes even healthier looking with a spike. However, I noticed if I take the full recommended dose or at certain full load, nails, sk8n, hair respond dramatically more than if I just use much smaller dose of it. Since, I am already happy with the results I am getting with my green routine, I use collagen sparingly with several missing days so not to burden the body too much with processed intake.
So, no, I do not think I am otherwise short on nutrition.
Does these really make a difference, I'm into 40s and started feeling a lag in muscle movements with even a simple sit/stand at knee and shoulder joints and often less strength unlike before.
Any long term side effect using these?
Get the collagen peptides by Vital Proteins. They usually go on sale at Costco every other month. They are made with quality ingredients( Grass fed and pasture raised ). Try to stick with the unflavored one instead of the chocolate flavor ( as this contains natural flavors)

self diagnose - how do you know if you actually need this, in this form, in this quantity? did you do blood work, see a doctor or did any test to derive that you need it in this form and in this quantity. yes, we all need vitamins and stuff, but slamming vitamin pills without any direction or idea how they work in the quantity and interval ingested or how many is needed per each individual is just making a lot of assumption. take too much of this stuff, and you are doing more damage than good. take it if you don't need it and you could be messing with your own ability to produce the needed stuff.
none regulated - anyone who knows nothing about anything, can package anything and put anything on the label for you to buy, supplements do not have to show you everything that is inside, so you have no idea 100% what is inside, and how this stuff is going to react with your system or other stuff you ingest. and we are not taking about the supplement not providing any benefit, we are talking about the supplement doing harm to your body.
but i do find it ironic that you would bring up corruption, you should take a look at how much $ the supplement industry spends on lobbying. guess again, they are not lobbying to provide more research or transparency . . .

i don't use this brand specifically, but in the upper half of my mid 30s and started taking collagen last year.
I can't speak for muscles/joints specifically as i'm taking other supplement for that as well but it has definitely had an affect on my skin quality and appearance (more than just moisturizing alone has) and my hair quality.
the biggest detriment to collagen is making sure you take the right kinds and to see an effect you have to take a fairly decent amount. i think my tablet supplement is 8 grams a day which translates to like 8 large tablets.
also for your stuff look into msm/glucosamine/chondroitin. they have a good bit of science behind them and i've been using them for years and have not seen any degradation whatsoever, anecdotal, but worth mentioning.
