Helpful tip- If you are new to Tracfone be sure to sign up for the Tracfone rewards! You find a valid referral code to sign up for a nice bonus . If you use a top tier code you will maximize the bonus and get 8,000 rewards points ($80 value) in your account. This can be used to buy air time, get phone discounts or add extra data for $10/GB, or minutes, etc.
Activate the phone first, then sign up for rewards with a valid promo code.

Use a top tier one that will get you 8,000 rewards points ($80 value) when you sign up. Most only will get you 5,000 ($50 value)
All I care is my son can call me when he needs and vice versa. What I don't want is my son would use it for playing video games, chat with friends unnecessarily or watch YouTube. What do you propose?

so this phone comes with 1200 minutes that expire in 1 year? or do you have 1200 minutes a month? Also that 30 dollars pays for the phone along with the 1 year of service? Would make a good emergency phone for a small kid
1200 minutes total for the year and 1 year of service activation

For a year, 1200 minutes.

Plan and phone out the door for this price and tax, yes.

They're perfect for an extra phone or emergencies, but they get you hard if you want to buy extra data.

This phone has not been white-listed by AT&T so you should skip this deal. Look for deals on Alcatel MyFlip 2. It's on the AT&T whitelist.
I think that is the phone my mom has. I need to confirm, but I'm near positive it is.

I signed up for a similar deal with HSN / Tracfone and a Motorola Android phone two months ago. It was a total headache and I had to return the phone. Tracfone STINKS.

I completed the whole process as instructed and ported my number from Google Voice to Tracfone. After more than 3 days waiting for the phone to activate on the network (which is what their customer service rep said the first two times I called to see why activation was taking so long) they said the number had ported in properly, now I just needed to fund my account and pay for service! They said they needed a PIN number from a service refill card (like you get at Walgreens) or needed my credit card number to bill me. I told them: "No, this phone comes with 1 year of service automatically." They responded that the phone did indeed come with a year of service, but they wouldn't activate the phone and actually give me any service until I bought a refill card or gave a credit card number over the phone: "Yes, but we need a service PIN from a card or you need to pay for a plan to activate service."

I went around and around with them for days, trying different customer service reps. No help. Everyone on the other end of the line is difficult to understand, both because of their accents and because they sound like they're on an old AM radio and have very poor audio connections.

After almost two weeks, I gave up. They had my number locked up, though since it ported in from Google Voice. I could not port it back out to a different phone company unless I activated service on Tracfone. They don't tell you they'll hold your phone # hostage like that. So I finally broke down and paid $10 or $15 for the cheapest plan possible, immediately ported out, and returned the phone to HSN, including the instructions and paperwork from Tracfone that clearly state: "this phone comes pre-loaded with 1 year of service. No service pin is required to activate. Service will be added automatically when you activate and port-in your phone number."

Tracfone is awful. Don't walk… run away from any "deal" TracFone offers. The time wasted and the risk of losing a phone number I've had for years due to their shell games and bait & switch tactics was more expensive than the "deal's" supposed savings. I want those 10+ hours of my life back, listening to lousy hold music and fighting on the phone with random customer service representatives twelve time zones away. More than one of them hung up on me when I read the "Tracfone instructions" page to them that said that I didn't need a PIN or a credit card to activate, and the phone came pre-loaded with a year of service. They are unprofessional and totally incompetent. But I guess you get what you pay for.

At least HSN took the phone back and issued a full refund. I'm still out the time and $15 for the service plan activation to port my number out of the lying, thieving Tracfone network.

Buyer beware.

Bought this last week. HSN auto canceled on the 3rd day before shipping. Rep gave me some bs about them having fraud activity with PayPal orders. Gives me a number to call and verify identity (he can't forward me apparently) It's some 3rd party company that is closed on weekends.

HSN, go f**k urself.

"Turn off your current device.", the "curent device" is tf phone/sim with a number i am using, right?
then.why need step 5, "5. Activate your current device by following steps 1-4; however, in step 3 use IMEI of your current device" ?

Is this the type of thing you can leave turned off and in the car for emergencies? And do you need the internet to activate it? Or could it sit in the car indefinitely until said emergency, whenever that is, and be activated at that point with the 365-day clock starting also?
You need to text/talk at least once every 6 months (for smartphones), for feature phones 12 months after you activate it. You could wait until your emergency and then activate it, but is that the time to take a chance it activates smoothly?

Tracfone reserves the right to deactivate any phone for which there is no voice, text or data usage for a period of six (6) consecutive months for Smartphones and twelve (12) consecutive months for other phones. If your Service is deactivated, your Service can be reactivated by purchasing and adding an Airtime Card. Once reactivated, your phone may be assigned a new phone number. Airtime which remained unused at the time of deactivation will still be available if Service is reactivated within sixty (60) days from the deactivation date, otherwise any unused airtime will be lost.

Can someone help me with what may need to be done. So my mom is her in 80's and only uses flip phones. AT&T recently had her go with a 4G phone and ditch her old 3G flip phone, but the new flip sucks, she can't seem to use it as well. I know the OP said 61 days to unlock after harvesting the account. Is there anything I can do? Like I don't want the account or airtime, just to use the phone on AT&T. Anybody have any suggestions what the easiest way to go about this is?
Slightly more costly but on the ATT whitelist is the 8GB Flip 2 on Tracfone's eBay store. It's $19.99 but comes with no plan. You can buy 2 9.99 plans to get you to 60 days to unlock. So figure, 39.99 total.

Yes, current device is TF phone/SIM with the number you are using.

You are essentially re-activating your current device in step 5 since it was automatically de-activated in step 3.
