Is this better than the Midea u shape 12k btu $299 at Sam Club B&M?
Not even close. Midea is a far superior unit and a whopping 25% more BTUs. Plus, this thing is enormously long. Prepare to shell out yet another $90 for the cheapest GOOD mounting bracket...which is included free with the Midea. No idea why anyone would buy this, unless they absolutely, positively couldn't wait.

The 12k Mideas have been known to struggle to perform and at times are worse than their lower rated counterparts at cooling. There's also the high pitched whine that drives some people nuts. This unit will do as good a job or better than the 12k Midea U which don't live up to their ratings. It really comes down to do you trust the LG units in direct sunlight after some were failing and LG's solution is put it under an awning, or does the risk of high pitched whine with the Midea not bother you. The LG really is a strong unit and quiet. The Midea is cool with the whole U shaped thing but doesn't meet the 12k rating.
Just out of curiosity, what's the seer on this thing? Is it more efficient than older models? The Costco link does not work (they do that crap all the time when they sell out of something).

Thank you. Silence is golden. 12k btus is overkill for me and I also trust LG and know midea is a little overhyped. If the one thing I have to do is make a little canopy for it to keep it out of direct sunlight a few hours a day, so be it. As well as a cheap bracket lol
