Compared this to a legion pro 3070 last month when they both were 1399. If you don't care about raytracing or dslr( the latter will be more beneficial as games get harder to run) then the Rx 6800m performs better than the 3070 in that laptop even without mux and doesn't run as loud due to liquid metal cooling. It gets really good battery life (non gaming/power saving) 9-10 hrs and can even game on low/mid 20% brightness and still charge for some games on USB-C(100w), the legion performance is unusable for gaming with USB-C. That being said the legion pro has an amazing screen when using hdr. if you have a external monitor I recommend the strix ( and you can keep it portable when you want) and if you want a workstation without an external monitor or a secondary i recommend the legion.
This is a $1300 near top of the line (Spec wise) gaming laptop with a 1440p 165hz screen, top tier processor (5980HX), upper tier GPU (6800M)...and you're wondering why did they only put 16 GB of RAM and a 512gb SSD in it?

I guess first off what made you expect 32GB of ram in a $1300 device to start with? The 1 TB vs. 512GB SSD is a little annoying since the price difference is minimal there, but hey, $1300 device here with a lot of top tier specs...it has 2 SSD slots, just add a 1 TB SSD for $80-$100. If you want 32Gb of RAM (completely unnecessary for 98% of people), get 2 16GB sticks for ~$100-ish and replace that too. Then you have a $1500 device with 32 GB of RAM and 1.5 TB of SSD storage...along with the 5980HX, 6800M and 165hz 1440p screen.

The RX 6800M should be about the performance of a mobile 3070. The CPU and GPU can handle the 1440p screen so this will be a great gaming machine.

16 GB is plenty for gaming. The 512 SSD is what's really limiting. At least both are easily upgradable.

Videocardbenchmark shows the RX 6800M at 9,300 while the 3070 mobile is 15,200. Is that not accurate?

Bought the FHD, 300hz model last year, and never regret about it.

Run actual games and applications not these proprietary benchmarks that are paid by Intel to be biased.

The 6800M can actually beat the 3080ti in some games and applications so this is a pretty good deal for gamers and video editors.

Not bad for the price honestly, just make some upgrades on ram and nvme mostly and you're golden.

Sadly 8gb is soldered on the board. only can update the 1 slot so 40gb max. That being said I still ordered it to check it out in person, lol.

Another nice thing about this as a workstation is that it has the proper inverted-T arrow keys. I could never work on a lappy w/o proper arrow keys.

one of the chips is soldered on? That absolutely should never happen in a workstation or performance gaming laptop in particular.

Are you sure? I know that's the case in the Zephyrus line but I believe they offer up to 64gb in the strix lineup

This is not a $1300 device... It's only so because of discounts
