I got this laptop late last year for a family member and also use it quite a bit myself. For $345 I think it's impossible to beat as a general-purpose laptop; this is better than many $500 "deals" I see on SD. The quad-core i3-1125G4 CPU is as fast as the i5 and i7 equivalents [cpubenchmark.net](which also only have 4 cores). The other pluses for me:
Good build quality - this has similar materials and feels a bit more solid than the 7000-series convertible I just got (7425), which has more keyboard flex
Decent screen for the price - mediocre color coverage, but far better contrast and viewing angles than TN screens you usually see at this price
Good port selection and full-service USB-C
Upgradability with 2 SODIMM slots, 1 of them free
Reliable Intel wifi chip (I can't stand the flaky Realtek chips found on many cheap laptops)
Good battery life thanks to fairly large battery
Good keyboard feel (decent amount of travel and a good balance between cushiness and tactility); unlike many HPs and older Dells with silver keys, the lettering is legible
Above-average speakers
Nice "quality of life" features like backlit keyboard and fingerprint reader built into power button
Quiet fan
The only real downside is that it runs fairly hot on the bottom, so not great for on-lap use. But the upper side doens't get very warm. Also, Dell's Power Manager (download from Windows Store) has thermal profiles, allowing you to choose more performance, less noise, or less heat. It also lets you set charging thresholds, e.g., to keep your battery below 100% to optimize battery health - very useful if you mostly use this plugged in.

A couple things though - yes that i3 you compared to the i5 and i7 isn't far off, the i3 here is a much higher TDP chip, almost double - at least in your comparison. All the chips can scale pretty low to a decent amount. The comparison isn't exactly fair, I imagine the the higher TDP variants of an i5 or i7 is noticeable.
Also, I agree having a real USB-C port, not just some data or whatever - but I've been lambasted for downplaying no TB4 on a regular laptop and that someone in the future may miss it - as if someone buying sub $500 machines is concerned with TB4 in 5 years.
But let's not pretend any of this matters for those shopping for <$400 laptops. This one is plenty fast, it runs a little hot but you can change that in the Dell Power Manager, sacrificing an insignificant amount of performance.
:-)
Edit: nvm, got it! It's one of the offers you have to "add" in order to use. Thanks for making me curious!
