Amazing price for a great router. I think I have restarted once in the last 2 years. Rock solid.
It's a 3x3 design. It's solid for the price (due to triband) but not as amazing as people like to think.

CPU is likely the 4906 variant at this point, which is the same A53 but dual core. The quad core 4908 was phased out a long ago to cut cost.

Your router is better. IPQ8065 4x4 + 4x4 QCA9984 platform with full 1W output.

Main Cpu a tad weaker. Dual core A7 vs Dual core a53, but shouldn't matter much for real world use.

Wifi 6 is just better SNR (8-9db improvement with wifi 6 client) + 10% QAM improvement at range.

Stuff like OFDMA or MU-MIMO doesn't work when you run old clients that take over an entire radio. Meaning.. unless you're only running newer clients, theres not much benefit (currently)
Netgear AX3000 wifi 6 router is only 50 bucks at Walmart.

In my case yes, the range improved. I have no complaints with this router and would purchase one immediately for $59 if I were in the market.

I see by numbers what's the range difference?

I am currently using a basic Tplink Archer A7 router (AC1750) with a Netgear CG4500BD modem. We are two person in our home and we have around 10 connected devices at a time. The problem we face is, our internet gets jammed (or gets hanged) for momentarily (like 10-15 sec) sometimes. Then it comes back in a moment. I get a ping of 30-40ms and speed of 100mbps. I mostly work at server, so I guess reducing ping is important for me. Can you suggest how can I improve the situation? Will it be helpful if I replace the Archer A7 with this TP-link Tri-band router or Nighthawk AX3000? Which one would be better between TpLink Tri-band and Nighthawk AX3000? Or should I replace the modem first? Any suggestion would be appreciated. TIA.

It went OOS before I could checkout with it. Any deals anywhere else on this?

I assume this would be significantly better than the pace 5268ac provided by at&t?

I have 1 gb down/up internet but the wifi rarely gets over 300 down/up, usually lower and deteriorates quickly at range.

How is the range? My router unfortunately is in the far corner of my home with multiple walls to between it and my Xbox and ps setup. Currently my Xbox gets about 200down and 50up where it is located.

Dang it. That's what I get for reading through the thread rather than pulling the trigger.

Purchased 18 months ago from Costco after testing out 5-6 different routers (including WiFi 6 - only 1 of my client is WiFi 6). No issues at all. Good coverage.

No issues running about two dozen devices connected at a given time:
  • Ring Alarm
  • 5 Cameras
  • Doorbell
  • 6 iPhones
  • Flume
  • Garage Door Opener
  • 2 Major Appliances
  • Chromecast
  • 4 Laptops

Running mine as a AP with ERX as router.

What type of security concerns do you have in mind?

Link?

If by multiple streams you are referring to 4K, WiFi 5 is just fine. 4K only takes 25Mpbs. WiFi6 is really if you are running a commercial hotspot (eg an office) when you have dozens and dozens of concurrent high demand devices. Unlikely to hit that in a residential setting. Most households don't need WiFi6; don't fall for manufacturer marketing.

250Mpbs more than satisfies most scenarios unless you need to transfer large files constantly. If your most high demand usage is 4K streaming, you only need 25Mpbs. With a laptop circa 2012, I'm guessing you're not doing 4K.

Is there a router not made in China?

Sounds like there is a bottleneck somewhere (ISP, modem, router, clients). You may have to swap out each to test out and return within return period if the swapped out component doesn't solve the issue.

Does the problem exist when if are next to router or plugged into Ethernet? If I had to guess I wouldn't think the problem is with your router. 10 devices shouldn't be much of a load even for older routers.

Thank you seawolf for the explanation! I will try replacing the modem first.

I will be returning both of mine. No significant increase in throughput and I have multiple cellspot routers with the latest merlin running rock solid for the last 8 years. I thought I would get a boost closer to gig speeds on wireless, but I get 600 Mbps/500 Mbps on this router while I get 525 Mbps/500Mbps on the cellspot routers. Will not keep them for some meager increase.

My whole home is covered with quality wifi... before... it was fine... but at 60Mbps... now I'm easily getting 300Mbps... and I'm a happy boy.

Loving mine too. Much better speed at farther away devices by more than 4x. Very fast bootup.
Replaces TP-LINK AC1750 which has been stable and performed well for years.

Funny, I bought this garbage and I'm returning it. Both wired speeds, which is odd, and wireless speeds and range were worse than my old Asus U66. I ordered an Archer ax21 so hopefully that will give me what I need. I installed an ax21 at my brother's huge home and I was blown away by the speed and range.
