PS+ Extra and PS+ Premium are like Netflix. You only have access to play while subscribed and the games available rotate in and out.

PS+ Essential games are claimed for life, but only playable while you are a current PS+ subscriber. So if you cancel, you lose access. If you later resume your subscription, you will be able to play claimed games again. If you miss claiming a game in a month, you miss out on that game forever (unless they someday repeat it).

Yep annoying license issue that popped up before when it was offered as a PS+ free game, but I just read that the issue is fixed today and now can get the license for FFVII Intergrade even if you already own the game.

FYI: Stray should have a free 7-day trial WITHOUT need of a sub if you take the offer for PS Extra upgrade trial. Apparently the game is short enough it can be played and beaten before the trial ends. Sony really is bad at this lol.

For those of you who are new to the ps+ service, unless you have a significant amount of free time for gaming or simply don't care at all about the price difference, the essential plan should be more than enough for most of you. One thing to keep in mind, is ps+ is required to play most multiplayer games online so unless you have no interest in multiplayer/online, you may just want to consider it a necessary expense and purchase annual subscriptions when they go on sale on cdkeys or eneba (they sometimes went as low as $30/yr back in 2019/20 but apparently seem to no longer go below $40/yr these days). They are stackable though so if you find a great deal, it never hurts to grab 3 or 4. The free games with essential are very hit and miss in terms of quality, but they do give away some awesome games that single handedly can make the subscription worthwhile but it ultimately depends on your genre preferences (it helps to look up the last few years of games given away to get a good idea of what you can expect). I currently have a massive backlog of games I ultimately hope to get to, including a number of AAA titles I never would have purchased on my own. So if you're anything like me, having no more than 5-10 hours per week for gaming and you find yourself buying 3-5 highly desired games a year, it may be worthwhile to try ps+ essentials for a few months to see if it will meet your needs on it's own. On the other hand, if you are spending a significant amount of your free time progressing through multiple games at the same time and you find yourself spending more than you'd like on regular game purchases just to hold your interest and keeping yourself entertained, it very likely might be worthwhile to upgrade your subscription for the rotating game catalog. I just think these higher tiers are likely overkill for the average person, so maybe try it for a month or two before buying an annual subscription to any tier, and then stack em when you find the right deal and you should be able to get 2-3 years of service for the price of 1. Just my two cents!
