I'm totally happy with the phone. The folded version is totally usable. I find myself using the phone folded with tall slender screen 60-70% of the time, but it's a nice luxury to have a crazy tablet size screen to unfold to when I want to. The unfolded full screen is a bit hard to type on (I've been using SwiftKey for 4-5 years), but this is the most spelling mistakes I've done my life. So I also find myself using the small screen when I'm messaging/texting. Overall, very positive experience but yeah, price is a huge factor. Mind you - people pay 1k for iPhones all the time without even thinking twice.

Which one is best to fit in a small 5' dude's Levis 501 pocket ? like this one or the more horizontal flip fold model they have?

It's longer but not nearly as wide. It's MUCH thicker. Double what a pixel 4 would be. With a case I imagine it's extremely thick.
it's going to be a drastically different experience based on size in your pocket than anything else on the market. it's also heavier.

But it's like 1.5x as thick and heavy, so I don't think that's comfortable in a 501 pocket.
(try putting 2 phones into the pocket)
It's even bulkier if you use a protective case. My friend who didn't realize it's a fold phone thought I got a super rugged phone case. If you don't mind damage, much more enjoyable without a case.
Since the days of big screen phone, I always wear cargo pants and have the phone in the side pocket (still some pocket are not large enough for 6" screen)
If size is a matter, Flip might be better choice and a lot cheaper.
Bought the 512GB Fold 3 for less than $1000 from ebay like new condition, it's definitely like new except the factory installed inside screen protector was removed (and the seller refunded some for me to buy the screen protectors).
Not a phone for everyone as it's definitely on the bulky side as an everyday phone.
However, so far I love it, it makes split screen really usable. On the productivity side, it's like a mini tablet, much better in reading web page, document, and even work well in seeing other people's shared screen in meeting. Also, it's big screen also good for mobile games and you can have 2 running and still playable (depends on what game) using split screen (+1 using popup for auto-farming game)
