Someone convince me to buy it anyway. Now!
Pick your poison.....more times than not i've found these worse than the issues with non smart (and yes i had this unit).
Thanks good to know. I was looking at this to put in at my father in laws house, so I could help him remotely. But if his internet is out and I can't walk him through anything manual then it's gonna suck lol.

I just tossed it 7 months later. "it's offline". i go over, it's offline. i restart. offline. no wifi. Ok use 'app to setup wifi" wtf wifi ok
then It tells me something is wrong, "you must set it up from scratch". Now keep this in mind....
you have to pull it from the wall and scan the barcode each attempt to readadd it to the horrible 3rd world google home app. You also must assume you even remember your wires from 7 months ago. After readding it, app crashing and it not blowing cool (and yes wires were selected in 'app' correctly
i got tired of putzing with it, ran down to depot, installed a basic for 25 bucks, problem solved and i'm out the door.
The bhyve works ok, there are app bugs never solved, they stopped developing it i'm sure years ago. Seeing when you watered and times is not reliable. The concept doesn't work in micro climates where like in FLA it may rain across the street and not yours. Remote control does work ok. App gets really wonky when you get out of wifi range, very irritating. You also want to make sure app doesn't get off loaded. All of the password resets for these things throw that in there.
In the end i sold it with the place and at new place have plain jane hunter with remote.
You really don't want to be hands off, you gotta go out and check heads, brown spots coverage, leaks. Other things something hands off like orbit is you assume it's correct that you watered. It doesn't mean your valve is actually working. There's no valve feed back intelligence there. You can think you've been watering for a month and have a whole zone out.
Aside from the remote i didn't find it all that useful as had to double check it anyways.,..probably work just fine in some limited use cases, very small lots no micro climates, etc
Definitely a good deal and product.
Bub
I had two of the bhyves on my current house and over the last year replaced them both with Hunter Hydrawise controllers. They aren't as "intuitive" as the bhyve during set up, but their programming options and functionality far exceeds what you can do with a bhyve controller. They integrate (with minor programming) into Home assistant well.
Best parts about the hunter system, you can integrate water meters. That way if I have high/low/no flow issues in my yard I can address them quickly (especially useful in AZ where watering happens early AM and you don't witness issues). AND you can do all your programming from your PC or at the box (you're not forced to use bluetooth or an app).
Just my .02. These Bhyves work fine, but if you're looking for something more pro-sumer grade, I'd suggest getting the Hunter. I'm not sure about other states, but in AZ you can typically purchase them once or twice per year during SRPs water expos for as low as ~60$.

Ha yeah I was just there last week replacing some busted Sprinkler heads. I really like my 12 station bhyve, but yes, I normally turn off wifi when I'm outside using it because my hard is just out of my wifi range it and does get weird. Only once or twice I've had to rejoin the controller to my wifi. Other than that it's been great.
But yeah I think I do go the smart route for him it will have to be the one with manual controls.

You can manage the stations manually from the box itself. Reading the manual, you use the B button and using various keypresses of the B button will allow you to do manual watering and accommodate for a rain delay.
