I'm not sure on this exact model, but I was able to knab me one of the purple Ryzen 5 3450U ones when they were on clearance at $150. It has a 8GB stick (soldered on) and 1 more dimm slot that I put another 8GB stick in. I'm not sure what the maximum memory these can handle, but it does see 16GB.
Also the screen doesnt get as bright as my other laptop, and the battery life kind of sucks.

Is it stuck at 8GB?

Buyer beware. Sent two of these back last year with defects.
Yes I had bad luck with them as well. One I took the back cover off and it has tiny parts that are difficult to put back as it is not obvious where they belong. They just sprung out when I took the back cover off.
These are $299 in-store near me.... Specs look good for that price.
One had a defective screen (dead pixels) and the other a defective keyboard (several buttons would not press down). Terrible quality control.
I had high hopes for the specs when I bought as well. The model I bought had 16GB of ram. System ran good for the short time I had it for what I needed it for. Gateway customer service was terrible.
Ryzen 3700u can be overclocked by the way. There's a couple different tools to do it. I found personally setting it to 15 watts, it's in spec of what it's set to run at, and it runs 5% faster according to benchmarks. I wasn't able to run it at 25w as it's capable. I think a lot of that depends on the cooler. But they can run upto 25w. I find 19-20w is the max power and it bumps up the performance like 10-15% But it can get pretty warm like 80c or hotter.
But anything above 16w will run hotter. That's why I said 15-16w is a good spot that's faster than stock and it doesn't get too hot
