It's supposably a modular RAM 2x4GB, users has tested it with 8GB of RAM, i can't tell if can go at a higher capacity.

As per Gateway support, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard (source page [gatewayusa.com]):
8GB fixed RAM kills it. It can't play modern games like Google Chrome
I have a Spyder for my monitor, and I tend to keep it under 200 nits anyways. True, you might find yourself squinting in broad daylight, but keep in mind 160 nits is the industry standard according to AdobeRGB. For extended play, keep your eyes safe and keep your brightness to a minimum!

Was FP a few weeks ago with the mentioned price only available in-store (YMMV).
Now it's at $299 for shipping too.

how's this compared to a Samsung GalaxyS6/7 or Apple Ipad 10.2 in (9th Gen Chip) at $299
If you're aiming to do actual work, this laptop is going to serve you better. If you're just consuming media or browsing the web, go for a tablet. Just my 2 cents.

I'm use to my 400nit laptop and I still think that's a little dim. I can't imagine 200nits.
Try reducing the ambient lighting a bit.

As per Gateway support, the RAM is soldered to the motherboard (source page [gatewayusa.com]):
