I bought one of these on sale from Costco 3 weeks ago in NJ and it didn't come with a stand , have been running it 24/7. I've emptied the bin twice and it's been full of moth, fireflies and all sorts of flying insects but I've barely been able to see a mosquito but there have been some. Maybe they are just too hard to see in among the pile of bigger insects. However, It might just be coincidence but no one has been bitten in the 3 weeks it's been hanging and prior to that I was getting nailed by then 5-6 times just cutting my lawn.

The box for these specifically says it's for mosquitoes but I'm still on the fence as to whether it is effective. I'm going to give it another couple of weeks.

I'm in California and have a good size backyard. Bought one from Costco and it greatly reduced mosquito bites when going into my backyard. Before i couldn't go out there, now it's not too bad. It doesn't reduce mosquito population to 0 because mosquitoes will keep flying in from other yards and all directions.

These things work when used properly and with proper expectations. They definitely will not remove all mosquitos in an area and, as reported, also kill other bugs.

That's the biggest reason people don't think they trap mosquitos. It's too hard to see them in the huge mass of bugs.

Best thing to do is use these along with buckets of water with mosquito dunks in them. If you have them early in the season and get ahead of the hoards, the subsequent populations are much lower.

I just wish they could do more for no-see-ums.

I picked this up from Costco in late spring and have been using it the past few months. At this price, I would suggest picking it up.

Like others have mentioned, it doesn't target mosquitos as well as the advertising makes it seem (they're not particularly attracted to UV, mainly CO2). However, depending on placement, I have found that it can be fairly effective at cutting down on their reproduction rates, especially when used consistently over a month long period.

When I placed it between my house and my patio area, it caught a metric boatload of bomber beetles and moths. Occasionally I'd have a fly or a wasp, never seen a bumble or honey bee or some of the more beneficial insects. While it does catch a large number of insects aside from mosquitos, most aren't really that beneficial and are also pests (beetles, noseeums, gnats, etc). About the most beneficial thing I've seen are the moths, but they're largely just pollinators and it won't really wipe them out entirely (they have relatively short life spans anyway). Plus, when I empty the trap, I put in in a bird feeder dish / bowl and the birds flock to it and still eat their food anyway, so it's not as big of a disruption to the ecosystem as some would make you think.

When I placed it further out near the woods my property backs up against, that's when I saw a significant increase in effectiveness in catching mosquitos and other pests vs number of beneficial insects, especially if it's an area that stays wet or has standing water. I wish they had a solar powered model which would make it easier to have an ideal placement, but since these require electric outlets, I needed to have a long outdoor rated extension cord to power it back there. As such, I keep it in the spot between my patio and house where I have an electrical outlet. It has cut down significantly on flying insects like the annoying bomber beetle and gnats, and I have also noticed a drop in mosquitos (but don't expect to not see a single one or never get bit). Using this alongside other normal measure like citronella candles or bug spray makes it much more effective and pleasant experience. I'd buy it again just for the reduction of annoying beetles and other insects.

I've also seen people using attractants to make it more effective, such as people placing fruit in the basket or mosquito attractant.
I bought one of the "traditional" bug zappers a few weeks ago and it came with a few small "patches" of an attractant that I'm supposed to put in the bottom of the unit.

I live in AZ and we have a terrible mosquito problem in the summer during monsoon season. I bought this at the beginning of summer and didn't notice it being effective by itself. I put an Ocentol tab inside and it made a world of difference. After 2 - 3 weeks, I was no longer being bit and I caught a ton of mosquitos. I highly recommend, just make sure to get the correct Ocentol tab for your area and run the Dynatrap 24/7.

Of course, also performed prostate exams while at it. Come here smell my finger.

Remove the light. That is the most dumbest thing. Good insects are attracted to it. Go online and find a reputable reseller of Lurex3, Octenol, or R-Octenol consumer mosquito lure/attractant. R-Octenol is the best if choosing just one.

If I had the time, I would build my own bug zapper focused on mosquitos. No lights. Large electrified zapper cylinder, 3 foot diameter, 6 feet tall, black. Lurex3, Octenol, or R-Octenol release tabs inside. 20lbs propane tank hooked too a windproof igniter with auto shutoff nearby to spread CO2. Bye bye female biting mosquitos. Collapse the local water colonies.

Then you probably live in a city location zone with noise ordinances. Like dog barking. So you couldn't use a zapper after a certain time anyway.

Just wanted to confirm, I had this for a few weeks and the trap fills up quickly, but I found zero mosquitos in there. Unsurprisingly, it didn't seem to solve our mosquito problem. I returned mine.

100%. Sprayed lawn & trees this year with Bifen IT and haven't had a single ant, spider, or mosquito all summer long, it's amazing. We live by a creek too so I didn't think it would be possible to be bug-free but we have been for the first few months...I likely will reapply this weekend.

Bifen it is really good, same stuff I use. Wayyy cheaper to buy the concentrated stuff then 1/5 (or 10? I forget) per gal and apply. Works wonders.
