I have one, it's trash. It doesn't attract mosquitoes whatsoever and inhumanly dehydrates everything else to death.

Was going to buy this but says it wont ship to me. Im in Calif.

Maybe a good thing based on comments here now about not good on skeeters

Anybody else have issues going to CA?

Pretty sure it has to do with California's light bulb ban from 2020. Bug lamps are exempt from the ban, but I'm thinking this product isn't being classified correctly

I'll second this. Caught lots of moths, spiders, and bees based on what I could tell. Was still getting mosquito bites and home invaders. Light burnt out in a few months and the replacement process is quite cumbersome and annoying.

If you wanna get rid of mosquitos buy the thermecells from Costco

Please don't use these. They kill every helpful bug in your yard and don't actually do anything for mosquitoes.
I have to say I agree with this. We bought one of these a couple of years ago from Sam's. Not only does it attract everything except mosquitoes, the '1/2 acre' claim is pretty much nonsense too. Ours attracts bugs within about a 15-20' radius and fills up quickly with mostly moths.

For mosquitos the propane traps like the mosquito magnet are the only contraptions that work well. Otherwise just spray your hedges and bushes and use deet like our forefathers did

I bought some mosquito zap thing and it too kill everything but mosquito. It say right on the box it suppose to kill mosquitoes. I'll return it to Costco too.

I think the one using bait or gas are more effective. I'm starting to think UV doesn't attract mosquito. I don't give out UV and mosquito could find me just fine.

Only natural thing I know that work against mosquitoes is dragonfly.

I live near a water treatment plant. I've got gnats up the wazoo, mosquitos aren't much of a problem here. I need to kill as many of these gnats as possible. Will this work for those?

They get through the nets and any open crevices. If I open my front door at night with the lights on for more than 2 seconds, it's open season for all of them to pile in like a stampede.

The bulb in the half acre is too low watt.. I have the acre one and it catches a ton of bugs.. nats, flies moths and yes mosquitoes.. it catches more mosquitoes once it is halfway filled with other bugs.. something about that attracts them .. anyway it's just a small help for our yard and it won't annoy your neighbor like a zapper

I picked this up from Costco in late spring and have been using it the past few months. At this price, I would suggest picking it up.

Like others have mentioned, it doesn't target mosquitos as well as the advertising makes it seem (they're not particularly attracted to UV, mainly CO2). However, depending on placement, I have found that it can be fairly effective at cutting down on their reproduction rates, especially when used consistently over a month long period.

When I placed it between my house and my patio area, it caught a metric boatload of bomber beetles and moths. Occasionally I'd have a fly or a wasp, never seen a bumble or honey bee or some of the more beneficial insects. While it does catch a large number of insects aside from mosquitos, most aren't really that beneficial and are also pests (beetles, noseeums, gnats, etc). About the most beneficial thing I've seen are the moths, but they're largely just pollinators and it won't really wipe them out entirely (they have relatively short life spans anyway). Plus, when I empty the trap, I put in in a bird feeder dish / bowl and the birds flock to it and still eat their food anyway, so it's not as big of a disruption to the ecosystem as some would make you think.

When I placed it further out near the woods my property backs up against, that's when I saw a significant increase in effectiveness in catching mosquitos and other pests vs number of beneficial insects, especially if it's an area that stays wet or has standing water. I wish they had a solar powered model which would make it easier to have an ideal placement, but since these require electric outlets, I needed to have a long outdoor rated extension cord to power it back there. As such, I keep it in the spot between my patio and house where I have an electrical outlet. It has cut down significantly on flying insects like the annoying bomber beetle and gnats, and I have also noticed a drop in mosquitos (but don't expect to not see a single one or never get bit). Using this alongside other normal measure like citronella candles or bug spray makes it much more effective and pleasant experience. I'd buy it again just for the reduction of annoying beetles and other insects.

I've also seen people using attractants to make it more effective, such as people placing fruit in the basket or mosquito attractant.

I have one of these, and while it may be a sample size of one yard I neglected to replace my bulb for a few months and was absolutely hammered by mosquitos. Alternatively, I've been outside sleeveless in 100 degree norcal heat and have received nary a bite with this lil guy chugging along on the patio. Well worth 65 bucks, imo, and at that price point just give it away if it doesn't work for you.

We recently hosted a large party and mosquitos have always been an issue. Found this on sale at costco. Well, there was not a single mosquito bite in over 6 hours of evening to night party!

Did you manually strip and search all your guests for mosquito bites?
