Wow, you ain't kidding. That's too many complaints about the same thing to be coincidental. Sounds like a serious design flaw.

Thanks for the heads up...after reading deeper seems there's lots wrong with this. Needs to be powered externally for most of the ports to work properly, need extra adapters for high frequency refresh rates, etc...

Can't believe there's no reference to incompatibility with MacBooks when they say it is compatible with macOS.....

I was curious about this after reading the reviews, so did some research on the matter. Apparently, the issue was actually more on the Mac side. There were numerous posts on various Mac forums about many different third party brand chargers, and even some ones sold by Apple, causing the Mac to get fried. I didn't go through all of the posts, since some threads were very, very long, but people reported this happening sometimes after weeks/months of using the same charger. It appears that a year or so ago Apple pushed out a firmware update in one of their MacOS update packages that fixed this. Obviously if you haven't updated for a while you could still be susceptible, but it sounds like the underlying issue is fixed and wasn't directly Anker's fault.

Wowzers... I own these 2x: Anker USB C Hub Adapter [amazon.com] and UGREEN USB C Hub 4K 60Hz [amazon.com] and have never had any issues leaving it connected long term to my Chromecast w/ Google TV.

Well I don't own this nor own a MacBook. Just pushing caution out there since mac's are expensive machines regardless of who's fault it is. issue may or may not still exist.

if you look at the dates of those reviews, most are from a couple of years ago. My experience with Anker is that they do a lot of iterations to correct problems. If you look the more recent reviews they are much better.
i have anker 555 iteration 3 and it works perfectly with my m1 macbook pro 16. all ports tested to be working as expected.

I have this, it does get hot when you have too many things plugged into it, apart from that it works as advertised. Additional USB-C port for data is something you won't find in other non branded hubs. Thumbs up from me 👍
