I just called Boost , their customer service barely spoke English
got transferred to the cancelation department
the woman named Amanda told me that this is the price and the device is prepaid and I will not be charged if I don't use the device
If I want to use the device then I can buy a plan from their website.

I hope this helps

It's funny watching people getting stressed out over $1 item. You have to expect that Dish Network will use some sort of marketing tactics to somehow convince their customers to activate quickly and use their service. It won't be good for business if people buy these item just to put it in their drawers. It's just common sense.
Well, they should have used some new hardware to "convince" new customers. For this kind of old hardware, you get it from TMobile for free.

Anyhow, from the reports here, there is no charge after 60 days

Mine was returned to sender by UPS. I'll be pissed if it turned out to be no charge after 60 days.

Yeah, this model is most likely to be discontinued. That's why they're giving it away for $1. However, they expect customers to use them with their service. Boost Mobile/Dish Network will try their best to make people think they are required to activate the device but they don't. I'm aware there won't be any additional charge because I bought two Big Grin.

Same, with a sim card in the bottom of the box, which covered by packaging paper.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank TrueDealMaster

Just wanted to that this is what it says directly on their hotspot page. It gives you the plans and prices with the data caps and then has a link to buy the device. Directly under all of that is the following statement:

"Optional Mobile Hotspot add-on allows device to provide Wi-Fi access for other Wi-Fi enabled devices. $3 Daily option provides 500MB/day; $5 & $10 Monthly options provide either 1GB/30 days or 2GB/30 days respectively. Hotspot service available until end of applicable term from purchase date or until data allotment depleted, whichever occurs first. Usage measured by total combined data use of each connected device. Connectivity dependent upon compatibility and speeds may vary."

That being said, adding a data plan is optional, and just to confirm I did talk customer service and ask them if I waited until September to activate for school purposes would that affect the price in anyway. The rep specifically said no, it's a prepaid device, you can wait as long as you want or not activate it at all. Once you buy it it's yours. Hope that helps. they did also mentioned something about an ACT plan where if you have pell grants, or Medicaid, or link or anything like that you qualify for 7 GB a month for free if anyone is interested in that. Other than that I'll just enjoy the added power bank.

Called to cancel right after ordering, service rep said order was automatically cancelled already. Got a shipping confirmation today. What an elaborate scam this company is running!
How is selling something that costs well over $10 to make for .99 cents a scam? They probably shut down ordering after they were all sold.

The fear mongering here is wild. Bets on that in 2 months they won't charge any of us for not activating.
