Remote is very good, except for the dedicated Netflix, etc. buttons (I don't care for those)
I haven't used it for gaming tho
I've had it for about 1 year and also have a Chromecast with remote. They're basically the same thing. For the price, I'd go for this anytime, I've seen them new at Walmart for $15. Price new is $20.
I would stay away from the Fire sticks, tv, etc. (unless you're really invested in that ecosystem)
And in haven't really used a RokuTV, but I can't see how it would be better than this, specially with the AndroidOS backing it
Here's a review of the thing

You'll want to get an OTG cable and a 256GB USB 3 Flash drive too.

Overall, I've had good luck with this device and end up using it instead of the other features on my smart tv...it's faster across the board, and can do more.

Is the UI android? some sort of Walmart/Onn branded skin?
Wondering if they allow all apps/channels or if there are contract disputes etc that block some?

It's full AndroidTV. Meaning that it has the Playstore, Google assistant, and can also side load apps very easily

Dolby Audio is a 2D audio technology that makes subtle enhancements to whatever you're watching — be it a sporting event, streamed movie or even a DVD or Blu-ray — so that it sounds generally better. It automatically adds detail so that you can better hear dialogue, for example. It also adjusts the volume so when there's a quick cut scene or you're even switching between channels, you're not going from extreme highs to extreme lows (or vice versa).
Dolby Atmos, is a 3D immersive technology that allows a speaker or speaker system to fool your brain into thinking that sound is coming from all around you. It essentially gives you the effect of feeling like you're watching a movie in the cinema, with speakers positioned all around you, even when you're not.
