Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

I've been a regular paying member of Google One for years, so that wouldn't be the reason for me - which could mean it possibly isn't the reason for you, either.

I won't be chatting until after I receive the phone, but I'll keep you updated.

Take care,
Tofu Vic
I see. Thank you.

I think many didn't like the Google's decision to abandon Pixel 3a phone's support so quickly. My wife uses Pixel 3a and it is working great. I didn't like to replace her perfectly working phone purchased during Nov 2019 (within 3 years) and I was thinking to move away from Pixel a series.

Now with a $300 trade in credit, free earbuds (worth $100; may be $50 resale value) and 5 years of support, I think it is a great deal to move from Pixel 3a to Pixel 6a.

I mean I'm not sure how accurate this is (I have no idea on mobile cpus), but looking at this link says otherwise

https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-com...gle-tensor [nanoreview.net]

Is the benchmark from the link flat out incorrect?
Some people with a Pixel 6 series says it gets hot with their new 1st gen chip (Tensor). XDA early access review shows the 6a throttled to 50% performance when stress testing. Smaller form factor and less RAM potentially making the problem worse than the 6 and 6 Pro.

Reviewer not only experienced the heat and throttling after playing an intensive game for awhile...but sometimes got freezes/lag just from multitasking music/video/social/browser apps as well as apps getting kicked out of memory beyond expected (maybe more software or RAM related but adds to an overall problem).

The deal is pretty good but I think more for people that can maximize the discount or have problems with their current phone or don't plan to keep their phone for more than 1 or 2 years. Seems like the 4a 5G is sort of at a middle point where it's a maybe leaning toward yes if you really want/value the earbuds...phones before yes upgrade, phone after probably wait.

Oh yeah, for anyone wondering, the phone doesn't come with a charger...just a USB-C cable and A to C adaptor.

Any compelling reason to move from a 5A/5G? Looking at the specs, I am thinking no, but the tradein+ free stuff is tempting.

Doesn't look like you'll get 10% credit back if it doesn't show up in the cart. I just chatted with customer service and was told that she didn't see it applied to my order. I had one year free Google One thru Chromebook and upgraded to 2TB today. However, I will not be charged for it until Sep. That might be the reason.
Just FYI - You need the 200 GB plan at minimum to get the 3% store credit. 2TB or greater plan for the 10% credit. The Chromebook free year is 100 GB so it wouldn't be eligible. However you mentioned you upgraded to 2 TB, if that was your plan at the time of order you would be eligible for the discount per the link below. I'm not sure why you guys aren't getting it. All you can really do is take it up with support and see if they credit you I suppose.

Google One credit details for the different plans are at:

Was looking into trading in my Pixel 4a, but I like my 4a a lot, and I don't see any huge upgrades for the 6a from the 4a, unless I'm missing something which is very possible. It's a bit taller and a little bit wider, and 5g is cool, battery is a bit bigger. Refresh rate is the same (60hz), still no wireless charging. Not putting down the 6a, it looks like it would be a good upgrade for a heavy phone user, which I am not. Especially for this trade in price.Just not sure it's a huge upgrade from the 4a which is 2 years old now.
Don't trade in Pixel 4a for this. Get a Pixel 3a for trade-in. 4A is still good and get unlimited photos/videos backup to Google Photos

I am tempted to trade in a brand new IPhone SE 2nd Gen (Cricket) for $285 while keeping my Pixel 3. What do you all think?

Yeah. I purchased Pixel after I upgraded Google One plan. CS said she escalated the case. So, I'm gonna wait and see.

Is there any way to use my $50 Google Play credit during checkout? I only see Google Pay option.

No reason to move unless you just like a new toy.

I actually canceled order. Used another Google account, signed up for 2TB Google One and repurchased. Someone already posted the reason in wiki. Google One benefits won't kick it until your billing for 2TB starts.
