Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

Is everyone selecting this option? I did and I'm trading in a cracked screen pixel 3a XL - should I not have??
Based on previous reports, it seems that selecting this option opens the door for them to arbitrarily issue you crap trade in value. This may be more likely to happen with a damaged device. Otherwise they can just deny the trade-in and you should be able to return the Pixel 6a for a full refund. The $300 question is whether they would bother to check the storage capacity

Thanks! I think I'll cancel and reorder with that option unchecked. Google store doesn't have any restocking fees does it?

If you go through the links there's a page that tells you what exactly they look at when evaluating the trade-in...and it's a lot of stuff.

Only asking two basic things (turn on/off and cracked screen) is kind of disingenuous when there's a long list they look at buried in their links (including lots of different functionality like buttons, full touch functionality, brightness check, scratches, factory reset, form factor dents/cracks, camera, etc).
Do you have the link to that page with additional info? Thanks!

Did you select the "If my phone's condition is different than above, accept its new value." option? Have a pristine 32GB iPhone 7. Debating whether its worth the gamble of sending it in.
You're going to get $0, since it's a phone they specifically don't want.

Wish there is a 256gb option. 128gb without microsd support is not good.
I'll get 256gb 13mini instead

Just saw a review video of the charcoal color. It looks much worse than the store photos...

I just upgraded my current Google One 200GB plan to 2TB plan and my credit back increased from 3% to 10% at checkout.

FYI for those looking to upgrade!

Att is offering the Pixel 6a for $2/mo over 36 months without a trade in. was like $48 in activation and taxes + $72 = $120 if you are OK with ATT.

Google really wants to get people on this Tensor chip. Do they even make money on the phone with a $300 trade in? And then the free buds as well.

Super tempting to upgrade my 5a for a new model at $150. But I'm one of the ones who returned a 6 Pro (coming from a Pixel 2 XL at the time) because the fingerprint sensor wasn't cutting it for me. I've decided to just keep the 5a, might even give Samsung a good look for the next purchase. If someone makes a phone with a dedicated finger sensor on the back, I'll prob go that way.

But seriously, how does Google make money on this? Is it just a data play?

I think if you're going att, their galaxy s22 deal seems like a better option. Buy a galaxy phone for under $20 on ebay, trade in for "free" s22.

I am in the same boat and 4a is on my secondary phone and I don't use it as much. However, I think I will go for it for additional years of software support. After counting free ear buds the upgrade cost is less than $100 on upgrade, which is pretty reasonable given how expensive everything else is these days.
I've got a 4a as well. No complaints but it's hard to look away at getting a brand new current model phone for $150 (and ear buds, if that matters to you). What are the chances you're going to get $300 value for the 4a again? If nothing else you're going to get more return when you give up the 6a - either selling it outright or trading it up again in the future. It's a safe bet that you're going to be offered more for the 6a than 4a down the road.
