Pixel 6 owner here. I word of warning.
the reviews stating the slow finger print reader is concerning.
If i can go back in time, I would not buy the pixel 6 because the fingerprint reader is embarrassingly slow and misreads if you change lighting conditions. It's simply awful and makes checking the phone a chore. I hate it. No screen protector issue, not my phone (it was exchanged), and it's a common complaint. If you are coming from a phone that had even an average sensor, this will annoy you to no end.

The Google Tensor chips have such unreliable and poor mobile connections that a significant number of users have to reboot regularly or toggle airplane mode on/off just to get data working. It always happens when i drive. Check reddits pixel subs for more info. It doesn't look like any of those issues will be fixed because they simply aren't fixed in the flagships.
It seems to be an issue when you transition towers, so if you travel a lot or travel through dead zones, it'll happen more frequently. An unacceptable problem most in-studio reviews don't address, but real-world users struggle with, and have been since launch.

warning: This kind of trade in deal came around 1.5 yrs ago for 4a 5g. The say they will respect trade in value if old phone is received within a month of you receiving the new phone. But then they delayed the return pkg . And instead of giving $285 trade in value they gave $15. Everyone had to fight with customer care to get back the money. And they have terrible customer care.

Several reviews of the final product are indicating it's pretty similar to the 6 and 6 Pro. Some early stories and very early (unofficial) hands on videos said it was a faster sensor, but many of the reviews coming out today of the production model ay it's similar in speed. Maybe a hair faster here and there, but not so much as to make a noticeable difference in day-to-day use.

TRACFONE USERS - just transferred my number - found out and passing on that u will NEED a bring your own phone Tracfone Verizon SIM - they no longer can move SIMS as each tied to a phone serial number.. Luckily I had one here,,,

Still loving this phone and the pics it takes...
I'm a Tracfone user and successfully swapped SIMs, but I think that was because I had a T-Mobile Tracfone service/SIM.... I don't think you can swap Tracfone SIMs if you have Verizon service... maybe you can with AT&T... dunno.

Yo this fingerprint scanner is infuriating!!! Any tips on how to improve it?

I've watched some videos saying that this has older April patch and should get an update soon or something? I hope this is true. I miss my 4a.
lol good luck

One of the many things i absolutely hate about my Pixel 6 Pro

Fingerprint scanner is FAIL

No fingerprint issues with my 6a. Only my 2 registered thumbs work. The 6a has a much better fingerprint sensor than my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G fingerprint sensor. I did a side-by-side fingerprint sensor test today. With cold thumb, the Samsung fingerprint sensor was always really terrible. I don't think the Pixel 6a fingerprint sensor is as fast and accurate as the really good physical Motorola fingerprint sensor. I should do a side-by-side comparison test between my Pixel 6a and Samsung Galaxy A71 5G with performance, interface, screen, speakers, camera, etc. I need to get used to going from 6.7" to 6.1" screen.

* Update... I usually get screen protectors with all my phones but I didn't get it with my Samsung Galaxy A71 5G because it has rounded edges that caused a halo effect and the screen protector will only cause more trouble with the fingerprint sensor. I decided that I won't get a screen protector with the pixel 6a. I just don't want to cause any slight interference with the fingerprint sensor. Plus my Samsung also had gorilla glass 3 and the screen is pretty much in pristine condition after almost 2 years use. With a Spigen case having a lip and me being usually careful, I should be ok without the screen protector.

Anyone know what Google store's return policy is? Some sites like Reddit say there's a $35 restocking fee, though I haven't found that anywhere on Google store official return policy. What if I don't open the phone at all, is there still a restocking fee? I'm a bit hesitant due to trade in kit not arriving until next week, but the phone is here and that 15 day return window started counting. I assume the pixel buds also need to be shipped back together.

Oh wow... definitely a fingerprint security issue. I can unlock my phone with my right pointer finger when I only put in my thumb print. It's not as easy to do it as the thumb print, but I did it at least 2 times.

Try it yourself... using your pointer finger and slowly slide your finger down while it's reading your print (maybe this reduces accuracy?). Try it a few times. Does it unlock for you?
I've added my thumb and index finger and I was able to unlock my phone a few times yesterday with my middle finger, but today it doesn't work. I wonder how similar the finger prints are on people's fingers?

I think you are correct because I tried to go from TracFone T-Mobile to TracFone Verizon and the customer rep denied me.

The Returns & refunds page [google.com] states, "Return shipping fees or free returns is shown on the item's details page." I pulled up the Google Pixel 6a product page [google.com], and see that it states, "Restocking Fee: Up to $55." Per some Reddit threads, people who chatted with Google have been able to get that fee waived, but it doesn't seem like a pleasant experience.

Not great news, but I hope this information helps,
Tofu Vic

I believe u r correct - only Verizon locks the Sim to serial number - thanks for clarifying.

lol, some of you lot sure can instill fear. I jumped on the deal cause of the 3a trade-in then read all the worries over the finger print, heat, camera force closure, etc. here and in various review and was gonna cancel the order but couldn't since it shipped. Just got my 6a a couple of hours ago and now completed the data transfer and setup. Guess my expectation aren't very high cause I'm really happy with the phone. Looks wise I think it's a big improvement over my 3aXL. Love the sage green contrasting against the black. Phone doesn't feel very cheap either despite the back being plastic. Phone got slightly warm during the transfer and app dl process but nothing I felt was unusual (watching youtube on my 3aXL for extended periods made that phone feel warmer). Now the phone feels normal temp wise. Biggest annoyance so far was after the setup was completed having to log in again and setup some of the apps that didn't transfer exactly . I've taken a bunch of pics and have no problems, using Nova and no problem, no issues with the finger print scanner (did record multiple entries of the same finger), and actually like the new gesture action over the ever present back and home buttons. Well, we all use the phone differently. Lol, I hope I'm not jinxing it and this thing turns to poop but so far I really like the phone.
I fear that may not last. I'm also uncertain this phone will be as good as the Pixel 2. I'm doubting google's future in the phone business.

TF also required IMEI when I activated new phone on Verizon T- Mo 6 months ago, things have changed since Verizon took over.

Just got mine delivered today and finally set it up. It's about what I expected, slight gains from the 3a but nothing insane. Definitely heftier and much more premium feeling in the build. I will miss the headphone jack but the ear buds will hopefully help with that. Overall for the price (assuming all goes well with trade-ins) I'm happy with the purchase.

My phone did get hot during setup but seems to have leveled off since. Also got my shipping emails for the trade-in kits. Hope they get here soon but it's USPS and we're having major issues with our mail on top of it. Like they only deliver a couple times a week.

They should've just kept it the same as the 5a imo with obviously updated internals but headphone jack and fingerprint reader on the back with a 90hz display. Would've been perfect.
So get a 5 or 5a then!

Had the phone for a little over 24 hours now, and for the most part I haven't found much difference between the 6A and the 4A 5G that I am trading in whenever Google gets around to sending me the return kit. The fingerprint sensor under the screen does seem to require you to momentarily leave your finger on it before it, but it's a pretty minor irritant

People keep saying the temperature issue is only when getting the phone setup. I'm still having issues with the processor heating the phone up just browsing apps and the internet.

Also, the camera moves very choppy compared to my 4a. It's got better processing for lighting but it moves terribly.

I don't mind the fingerprint issue so much though as the fingerprint reader on the 4a was also terrible and often didn't recognize. This recognizes more but is just a tad slower.
