Here is a REALLY detailed breakdown for those who care. If you are looking for a $250 laptop you might not care all that much though.

Really thankful to OP for this. I am a slickdealer and techgeek for years now. I bought my current laptop from a TigerDirect deal last year that was insane for a premium machine. But my girlfriend is studying for LSATs and her computer finally crapped out (our old college laptop from 7 years ago). She didn't want to spend a lot of money so I tried to talk her into the Ideapad 5 Pro from costco about a month ago for $550 as it seemed like a fantastic deal for a premium laptop. She still thought it was a lot, and sure, fine, $550 is a lot for many people, and I am a cheap slickdealer, but I thought it was a great deal. But now with this, I think we got both affordable and usability!

She will love this! I just went ahead and bought it. She mainly needs better ram and storage. This being a decently new i5 is a cherry on top. She is not a tech geek so the screen should be fine. And to top it all off, OTD was $265.

I will set it up for her tomorrow and see how it holds up. I can give an update/first hands review when I am done with its setup!

Edit: I posted a small first hands review and wanted to put it here in case more people could see it. Also, ours does charge on USB-C.

So I picked it up last night and opened it to see how the general build quality was. Everything felt great. The top cover I believe is metal. The bottom is plastic. Keyboard is decent actually so far. I don't like the layout, but travel seems to be decent. Screen is alright. Not the brightest, but we should not expect that at this price. Colors are fine, I am guessing this is somewhere in the middle of 45 to 72 NTSC.

Setting up was quick and she seems to be able to use it fairly fine. I made sure that it had all internals. I am weird about that stuff so I just make sure. 16 gigs ram, i5, SSD. All checked out. I saw a youtube video about this exact same laptop from I believe ETA prime and apparently, the BIOS is decently untouched, so you can go and tinker. He upped the TDP on the i5 from 15 to 30 and it doubled his benchmark scores. We won't be doing that yet unless she thinks it's slow but it feels speedy even to me. I am sure that bump could also eat battery life if not plugged into power.

Seriously, it felt good enough that for $265 OTD I went and bought another this morning to have around as a spare laptop. As someone else mentioned, the internal components alone are probably worth more than the price. I am getting a keyboard, screen, fan, and chassis for free.

And yes, mine also has a spot for an SSD upgrade.

Hope this helps someone!

Good price for the specs, but very YMMV. Most colors are out of stock near me.

Sadly none in stock near me, but FWIW:
  • I've had one of the refurbs since Black Friday last year
  • Value for the money is excellent
  • Most of the prior threads (for the refurb version, mind you) have cited hit or miss, ending up with a like new fantastic lappy OR some with "it crapped out on me"
  • i5 processor and 16GB to enable plenty of tabs to be left open, you'll be hard pressed to find a laptop with those specs at this price....but they also had to make shortcuts too....probably poor support, and the plug into the laptop looks fragile so you want to be very careful with it. The display is ok, but not terribly bright.
  • I like the physical texture, the top feels premium for the money tho the rest of it is cheap plastic
  • There's a USB C which some have reported being able to charge the laptop on; I've had some experience with this and I believe that is the case as well
  • If you're in the market for a laptop, I'd say go for it assuming that you are comfortable with Walmart's return policy. I don't think they have restocking fees or anything.

Black isn't listed on the site on this listing. Could you post the UPC so we could try to get Brickseek on it?

Here's the Black:

Someone mentioned waiting for the clearance price to drop. If I bought this, is my best bet keeping it sealed and going for a price adjustment? Or does it not matter if it's opened?

Brickseek said my store had 6-7 blue in stock but they suck at inventory. Did find a black one and I think it is the only one they had. Thanks! WI

Store near me said 2-3 in stock and guy didn't find any. Think there's any chance of buying online and getting it matched somehow?

Walmart only gives 7 days for a price adjustment. I know b/c I did it myself today for this laptop. I purchased it 2 days ago for $349 in store but noticed it went to $249 so I took it back today and got $106 refunded. It doesn't matter if you keep it sealed. You just need your receipt and the box so they can scan the barcodes.
