You only pay tax on the $250. The first $1500 is exempt.

Put in a $1200 computer in your cart it will still show the tax. I believe best buy adjusts it after otherwise you can go through chat and they will create the invoice for you.

IL tax exempt week is next week. Not quite no tax but still lower than our usual absurd tax rate.

Wish I could buy the MacBook Pro for $1750 listed on another thread here in Florida, but if the amount exceeds $1,500…you get charged tax. Anyone know any way around this or to somehow only pay tax on the remaining $250?
I wonder if you can split the payment and it would work?

Hi there, unfortunately all the states specify "Partial Exemptions Do Not Apply - Total Cost of Item Must Meet Price Limitations" in their tax codes. The merchant is expected to collect sales tax on the entire selling price & remit that amount to the state:
If an item sells for more than the threshold (e.g. $1700 for a MBP when the threshold is $1500), tax is due on the entire selling price.
Another example: Even though an item is excluded (e.g. within the apparel category), merchants may opt to include them as exempt on their side for the customer & absorb the loss (the sales tax amount). But they will remit the amount of the tax to the state.

Almost $100 billion dollar surplus and still can't get a tax break like most states for a 529 plan.

Our house used to be Apple only for years. Couple MBP, several iPhones, 4 ipads etc. Bought a new iMac 5 months ago, lots of issues, replaced twice. Most recently, my 9yr old son needed to update Netflix and a couple games a day before a 12hr road trip. We used the wrong password, started the reset password process, told it would take 24hrs, call tech support and that changed to 15 days. 15 DAYS! Went to the Apple store where I had purchased the iMac and same sales person spent a hour with tech support to no avail. They could not explain why or how it was changed to 15days. F that and never again.
if I were a real fanboy, I'd say:

what does games and bad memory have anything to do with Apple's super secure password policy?

also, what do your family use now in place of the MBP, IPADS, and iPhones?

How long does this Applecare+ policy for $63 last? Only 12 months?

Of course NEW YORK isn't on this list! They are so greedy they try to pinch every cent out of us! I can't wait to get out of this crap state!
I feel the pain. When the bag tax took effect, I got extremely angry. Not only do we pay 8.625% tax but also ridiculous bag fee and it's not even reusable since it's made out of paper garbage. This is easily one of the worst states to live in.

I would not be surprised if California doubled their sales tax during this period. You know because of global warming or some shit

Thanks so much for sharing this. I was just about to buy a Mac Book Pro for one of my kids. I will now wait until the no tax day and save myself a few bucks.

But how does it work? Will the Apple site know to NOT charge the sales tax based on my state, etc? Or will I have to submit it and get the money back somehow?

BTW, for us some cities participate and some do not. The two closes Apple stores are in towns that don't. I take this as the state portion of the taxes is not charged but the local part would be.

How to they verify education pricing..? Like, let's say I'm a "student" how do they know?
Some site require you to register an account with a .edu email and verify. Some require a valid student ID to be scanned onto file.

They don't really care. My assumption was that I needed to use my school email address but they give the discount to everyone.
