This film (the director's cut specifically) is so amazing. Scott basically went Peter Jackson on this with the theatrical cut being 144 minutes and the director's cut being 194 minutes. Here's an article for anyone wanting more info on it - https://screenrant.com/kingdom-he...es-better/

The Director's Cut of this adds so much to the story. Yes its a long movie but perhaps the last proper historical epic that was released. Hopefully Hollywood hasn't completely turned its back on these types of movies.

Totally... but the rest of the movie is historically inaccurate... King Baldwin never wore a mask... After Saladin captured Guy, Sibylla begged Saladin to release her husband and were together until she died of plague some years later... I haven't seen the Roadshow version yet so I don't if this was changed in the final cut of the movie...

One of the absolute best and historically most accurate movie and awesome job by Scott, absolutely stunning cinematography, direction and acting.
This movie and Passion of Christ were bitter truth movies that show the reality of Christianity and crusades.
BTW, I agree that Orlando Bloom might not seem a good cast, but, the movie has so many great actors, plus the movie was not at all Gladiator like to be centered around one character, that's the reason the Orlando Bloom slight miscast didn't affect the movie.

That is why I stated it was somewhat accurate with the only accuracy being the Muslims were slaughtered and oppressed. Brave Heart and Gladiator were far from accurate as well.

That's not the point. Anyone familiar with Slickdeals knows that people come to these threads who have never seen the movie, or read the book, or whatever that the thread is about. I loved Passion I don't care what anybody says Mel Gibson directing is on par with Ridley Scott and I dare say a smidge better, but I disagree in regards to the accuracy of Kingdom. It was around 30% accurate. Raynald De Chatlilon raping and murdering Salahuddin's sister, The Knights Templar raping and pillaging near by Muslim caravans and villages, etc. did happen. The suffering of the Muslims was really the only accurate portion of the film. I actually like Blooms character in the Director's Cut. He was a blacksmith not a warrior. Bloom is not built like Russell Crowe and was not meant to be that guy. Just a valiant human being seeking redemption. "It is either a Kingdom of Conscience or Nothing!"

I majored in History in college hence the Gesta Francorum reference I made in a previous comment. We are on the same page. In regards to Gibson Brave Heart is my all time favorite film ever made even though it was not historically accurate at all. Mel's Cinematography is pure art that rivals Scott.
