Fingers crossed I get a great device! Since warranty is reduced, does anyone have any tips on tests to run to rule out potential problems while I'm in the return period?

$588 for GTX 1650 is not a marvellous deal. But it is fine if you urgently need a laptop.

Keep in mind that Asus warranty has already started so you're not getting a full 12 months on these open-box deals. I mention that because the Costco deal on the IdeaPad 5 Pro 14 is expired, BUT your friendly neighborhood Micro Center is selling the refurbished model with 90 days warranty for $499.99. I'm looking for a good inexpensive laptop with nice screen and ample power, and this one is tempting me. 16:10 ratio is just so much better for seeing more real estate on your screen. https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ished-grey
While it may have started. If you email ASUS support the receipt, they will allow you to re register for the warranty. You will get the full year, I did this last year with a very similar open box deal.

Anyone able to comment on the thermals for this laptop? I need something for school and the processor in this is really good. I wont be gaming on it much.

Yes, this 100%. The fact that people don't know this is puzzling to me. You get a 1-year warranty on most open box items unless Best Buy states otherwise.

FYI.

ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 14" Laptop - AMD Ryzen 7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 - 512GB SSD is no longer available for shipping.
Sorry about that! You still might be able to get it if you check nearby stores for availability.

I have the 2020 version of G14 (vs. 2021 version in this post).

Pros:
Light
Can handle most games + multitask
Can change the fan program. Highest temperature that I ever reach is 87 C.
Decent community on reddit.

Cons:
Screen is not worth the 1k price tag. I use hub to connect to 2 extra monitors. Extra cost.
Wifi driver is terrible. I have wifi drop 2-3 times/week. Since I use it with docking station, I connect Ethernet cable to it.
Need to clean fan every 2-3 months

Acer swift 14 with the 3050ti is also a good option
Not made for gaming, but can game. The Zephyrus is purely designed for gaming and optimized for the form factor.

Is that a for sure thing or Ymmv? Reason I ask is because I did that with a used netgear mesh router. It arrive DOA but the csr allowed me to reset the warranty based on my Amazon invoice. However I returned it because they were to slow to resolve my issue. I ordered another used mesh router of the same model but better condition and even more expensive. I tried to do the same thing and the new csr denied resetting my warranty. Luckily this one works.

I feel like the only benefits of the Lenovo is that it is new with a better screen and webcam.
The G14 has dedicated graphics for light gaming, a better processor, and upgradable RAM.
Also, the Lenovo has WiFi 5 (802.11ac) versus WiFi 6 (802.11ax) on the G14 but that is usually a cheap upgrade ($20-$30) for Lenovo models since they typically have slotted WiFi.
Thanks for the input. Since I slept on it, open box is no longer avail, I guess I'll be keeping the Lenovo.

Because this isnt the norm. Asus is an exception. Many tech giant companies don't reset warranty period on open boxes, not even for Excellent condition.

In my experience...

It's not particularly good imo as a "general use" laptop because the fans kick in too often for a pleasant experience (personally), and the screen size to weight ratio is actually quite bad.

It's not particularly good at gaming either because it has a GTX 1650 with a smaller than usual screen (bigger screens are better imo for gaming) that has slow response times.

It's a laptop for those who don't mind compromising on general usage experience for some gaming capability (and vice-versa)
I always wanted this model but kept missing deals and ended up buying a Thinkpad P14 but if I can do light gaming on the road I'll appreciate that, also this is much faster than the thinkpad.

I'm a student so I need something for class, I'm not a CAD student which I didn't know the P14 was mad for.

Anyway I'd like to buy this and sell the P14, any tips for where to sell it at? Do you think that's a good idea?
