who do you purchase minutes from after the one year is up and how much do they cost and are they also good for a year?
The cheapest way is to buy another phone with a year of service. Like this one or a cheap smartphone. Or you can spend $100 on a year card from Tracfone.

Stay away from TracFone if you value your number, once they have it they will never release it. I have been trying to port out my number for past 3 month, they keep changing info in my account without my permission just so the port out will fail.
Here are some instructions that may help you - they are a combination of instructions I found on reddit. So they are not my own, but I just used them successfully to port out a tracfone number without any issues:

The Tracfone (TP) PIN is not the one on your account page!! Tracfone changed their pin process. You text NTP to 611611 and it gives you a 4 digit pin for port out. I learned this the hard way. Also, you need to use a new pin # for every failed port out attempt.
First, you can text FOUR to 611611, which helps you identify your account number by providing the last four digits of that acct number. Then text NTP to 611611, that's the pin to use for this port out attempt and then you'll need to use the ZIP code of where you lived or where you bought the phone when you first opened your TF account.

Here is some more info that may be helpful in identifying your account #: (Click the Device tab. Look for Handset followed by an 15 digit number. If you find it that's your account number. If you don't see Handset, look for Sim Serial Number followed by a 20 digit number. Your account number will be the last 15 digits of the SIM Serial number.) Good luck!

Got one for my grandma.

T-Mobile got rid of 3g, one I get this unlocked would it work for T-Mobile?
If it's not in 4G or 5G it won't work on most of the major providers these days. They've been knocking old spectrum pre4g non data phones offline.

Do these make good burner phones or is it too late once I buy them online?

Maybe it's just me, but how cool it would be to say, sorry I have a phone call and flip-uo this retro phone....?
And while you can set up ringtones with that hailing sound from the original Star Trek series, I bet many aging Trekkies would like it to make that sound the communicator make as you flip it open. I wonder if there's a TNG lapel speakerphone out there.

Personally I'll go for the old big three watt cells to throw people off.

Alcatel My Flip 2 supports these LTE Bands - 2/4/5/12/13/66/71

Once unlocked, this device works on both ATT and TMO networks. I've tested it on all 3 major networks. It's the little flip phone that could Stick Out Tongue

Does anyone know if you can add this Tracfone service plan to the existing Total Wireless account?
