Beware that LG monitors are picky about the USBC cable. Tried multiple other Thunderbolt 3 cables from reputable brands and most if not all have compatibility issues. The manufacturer's white cable always work with m1 macs or Windows laptops.

This one doesn't have USB C. I think most people who are looking at this monitor want the Thunderbolt connection. Also, this monitor has 400 nit vs Samsung's 300 nit.

How is the Samsung better for $20 more other than 1" larger in size?.
The LG is 400nits vs 300nits Samsung
LG 95% DCI-P3 vs 90% on Samsung
and LG 1200 contrast ratio vs 1000 on Samsung.

My vote is this LG for a better color accurate and brighter monitor.

Aside from gaining 1 extra inch of screen space, why would you recommend this one? It doesn't have USB-C which in my opinion is pretty helpful feature these days.

Also the LG has integrated speakers.
USB-C, speakers, and 100 brighter nits make I'd go this LG.

I'm curious about this. I've heard 5K is optimal for macOS scaling. That 4K doesn't fit into a 1-to-1 pixel ratio with macOS scaling options or you can not scale but then the text is really small.

Could you elaborate a little more on how this 4K monitor is better than other 4K monitors for macOS scaling? Would love to get a 4K that works well for my macs.

This looks like a very good monitor at this price. I got the 27UP850-W (I'm not sure how it's different form this 27UP80B-W) for $320 USED off eBay. At $300 NEW, assuming they are nearly identical. This is a very good price for a good monitor.
