I've been watching the mid-range Asus AX routers, and given the rash of recent promotions, it seems that they're trying to thin inventory before introducing new models in a couple months.
The 86U is normally a $250 router, and $270 at full boat with no discounts. Other than that Zaku deal for $220, I haven't seen it anywhere closer to $200, and AMZ raised their price back to the higher level before their inventory ran out.
The 86S has been as low as the $170 range, from Newegg, of if you can swing Best Buy's recycling coupon and have the checkout clerk override the system to apply it to the current sale price of $199. At my store today, I asked about exclusions and they said it doesn't apply to sale items, but YMMV. It has a pretty steady $199 at AMZ, before going up slightly, and now down to $190.
The 68U isn't available in as many places, which limits its price range, and might be a forgotten player, but it's in the $180 range normally.
Also considered the 58U, but it gets outperformed by the 56U, and has a lukewarm reputation. It hovered around $160 at AMZ, before going on sale for $140, and now back to $160. Other places, like BB, typically want $180 for it.
The 86U Pro is a couple months out, and while pricing is unknown, if they're going to market it as the Pro, and not simply slot it in as the V2, then I wouldn't expect it to be any cheaper. It will have newer hardware, but it probably won't make a big practical difference. And, as with all new hardware, it will take time for the bugs to get worked out, firmware to stabilize, and support from Merlin and the like to arrive. He has confirmed that it won't use the same firmware as the 86U.
All told, $200 for the 86U is a pretty good deal.

I wouldn't waste time trying reconcile the voting, or anything else on the site that can be manipulated. Just consider each offer on its own merits, and how it jibes with your own personal standards.

In any case, I haven't set it up yet, but did receive mine, and it's the real deal 86U.
$20 less than that Zaku front page deal, $50-80 off normal pricing, and Walmart's return policy is 3x more liberal than Amazon or Newegg. so no complaints here.
